Maybe I'm wrong, but it would seem that anyone with a smartphone and an internet connection could hear the show. They'd just need to install the tunein app and select the correct show at time above. I'm not sure what time that would be here.

Good beats with Daniel?
-
If that was it, I listened with my kids through a bunch of commercials, then Jailhouse Rock, and some talk but left with "Booty Child" or whatever that song was.
I don't often listen to radio, any more. I guess it's been a while.
-
Any request....
-
It was just a CD i had here to play
I have to play so e adds to
You mi b t have heard an add
-
You might have heard an add
-
Was just listening to you. Melanie said she could understand you much better on the radio than on the phone.
-
There was a voice I guessed to be you talking slowly about yard work, it being 10 after the hour, and what to play next. The ”Booty Child” song wasn't something for the kids.
Commercials are the reason I quit listening to the radio and watching TV. I don't miss them. It got to the point that it's just commercials, and I couldn't enjoy whatever I was trying to take in.
-
TEST to see if I'm listening to the right thing.
Request---Start Me Up, by The Rolling Stones for Melanie and Charlie in Auburn, Georgia, USA
-
Yep, right one.
Hey, you know what his voice sounds like. Does he sound that differently on the radio?
-
this is the last one for the shift
next week at 3 to 5 pm sydney time
-
Yes, he does sound differently on the radio. Melanie has lots of trouble understanding him when he calls even though her New England accent is similar to the UK and AU accent, but she could understand him on the radio.
-
Allen and I managed to talk briefly this morning. Very bad connection and repeated disconnects. His words were very distant and chopped. Allen made 6 attempts but we kept getting disconnected.
I did manage to verify that the program "Music by Daniel" was the correct one. Allen was filling in for Daniel who couldn't get to the station on time, and Daniel picked up on the time slot that Allen would have normally been on the air.
-
Here, the DJs swap slots when they are trying to get money. A guy I used to work with was a DJ on some FM station.
I don't understand why the connection would be so bad. Australia is not a third-world country. They should have good connectivity. The international communication aspect is handled by satellite. I believe that you use skype. Unless you or he have a poor internet connection at your home, things should be fine.
I'm regularly on those satellites, and connectivity is acceptable. Chopping is due to compression algorithms and packet loss, combined with the fact that QoS isn't set up properly. Most home ISPs don't provide QoS, nor are home routers and switches equipped to do so--even when they have QoS options.
Depending on your skype software, you can often improve your results by disabling video and reducing the audio quality. This reduces bandwidth usage, and allows the voice to come through. The disconnects sound more like congestion at the skype server. Since there are several, I would usually check the hops to find the holdup and re-route my traffic accordingly. Skype does not load-balance their servers, for some reason, nor do they use redundant channels.
I used to use Vonage to call overseas, since most countries were included. With the cell phone app, I could make and receive calls from anywhere I had internet. They even added a feature that made the calls appear to come from my cell phone number. Sometimes, we did get a poor connection, but usually when dealing with undeveloped areas in third-world countries.
My auditory experience via TuneIn was OK, but sometimes his voice seemed muffled or soft. Since I don't know how he actually sounds, I can't attribute this to anything in particular. There didn't seem to be a good transition between program and commercial, although I'm not sure who controls that. Most of the ads were for things that must only be in Australia. When Fierofool's requested song ended, the song faded out a bit, then ended rather abruptly, and the talking began. Cool that you can make requests. They probably don't allow anything like Good Morning, Vietnam.
Other than the difference in time slots and DJs, what is the difference in the programs?
-
When he was first calling, he was using WiFi from his vehicle. Probably poor cell signal. Anyway, he called again when he got home and we just finished a 54 minute chat where he used Skype to call my home phone.
Unfortunately, last night I didn't get to hear him play my request. Melanie's IV had to be changed and I was away from the computer during the end of the show, but next week, he said he's going to play another request early in his regular show that will begin at 11pm Eastern. You younger dudes probably won't appreciate it as much as folks like me, GTXVette, Roger, TopNotch and OldOne. Late 60's-early 70's.
-
I don't know how you "old folks " stay up so late to give it a listen?!

Yes, thank you. I really enjoyed it. Mostly the drums. Gonna have to depart you in about 15 minutes. I have to get up early for Memory Lane, tomorrow. Car museum tour, if you haven't caught the other thread about it.

Do you have that song I Am the Great Pretender?
-
...I have to get up early for Memory Lane, tomorrow. Car museum tour, if you haven't caught the other thread about it.
At the time I read the other thread, I thought the Memory Lane thing in the other thread was a non-physical thing, basically like far away or long ago.

Cool. This works. I haven't heard that song since the '80's. Thanks. I hadn't realized how high a pitch the lead singer reaches. I'm glad I didn't have to sing it.

its the strangest song I have heard
I really didnt know it was on the CD
At least you aren't making us choose songs by CD and index. Since we have no list, it'd always be a surprise. With my luck, I'd get that song.
-
A long time ago, my parents bought a record that had a song I'd like to hear again. I don't know the name of the song, or the author, but probably one of you does.
Here are some lyric fragments:
1. Small grains of sand in my shoes
2. It's not the mountain, of small grains of sand
3. The wide open river, all over the waterfall (This is what I remember hearing, but not necessarily the correct lyric.)
This record was purchased in the '80's. I believe the song was a cappella, but the singers were definitely women. I haven't been able to find this song on youtube, in any music store, or with Google.
-
Would this be it?
http://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3530822107858678511/
-
Unfortunately, no. The first 2 lyric fragments were exact. I'm not sure about the third.

-
Very well. How about Making Memories Of Us, by Keith Urban?
-
Thank you. Love that song. Cranked up the volume.
A bit of trivia. I had a CB radio with a public address speaker mounted in my grill. This was in the early 70's. I had that song recorded on a tape and Melanie and I were riding down a 4-lane street in her home town. When the last part with the organ synthesizer stated to play, I keyed the mike and played it through the speaker. Cars began to pull to the side of the road because it sounded so much like a police siren. Fortunately, at that time, I was part of a CB club that did Fire and Accident traffic control and had a large red light sitting on my rear window shelf. Probably kept me from getting stopped by a real police siren.
-
I've enjoyed the hour and a half but I have to get up early for Church. Gonna shut down until next weekend. I promise to have another Golden Oldie But Goodie.
-
Awesome guitar riff in Purple Rain.

OK! That's 11PM Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Getting into my waking hours, now.

Did fiero128's shift time also change?

I believe they came off Daylight Savings Time or whatever they call it. That, combined with our change makes about a 2 hour difference in our time zones.

OK. I'm tuned in. How about Old Time Rock and Roll by Bob Segar or I Believe In You by Don Williams.

10 November 2019
Catastrophic fire danger is now forecast for the Greater Sydney and Greater Hunter areas on Tuesday 12 November 2019, due to worsening weather conditions.
High temperatures, strong winds and low humidity are forecast, making conditions dangerous.
Catastrophic is the highest level of bush fire danger. Homes are not designed to withstand a fire under these conditions.
If a fire starts and takes hold during Catastrophic fire danger conditions, lives and homes will be at risk.
Advice for people in areas of Catastrophic fire danger include:
Avoid bush fire prone areas. A safer area may be a large town or city, shopping centres or facilities well away from bushland areas.
Schools in identified high risk areas will be closed. Schools will notify affected students. Start making arrangements now.
If you are unable to leave, identify a safe location which may be nearby. This may include a Neighbourhood Safer Place.
Large areas of the state are also forecast to experience Severe and Extreme fire danger. This includes in the north coast and northern NSW areas, where there is a large number of fires already burning. These fires will not be contained in time and will threaten lives and properties.
Based on latest forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following fire danger ratings are expected on Tuesday. These are subject to change as forecasts are updated:
Catastrophic – Greater Sydney and Greater Hunter (including the Blue Mountains and Central Coast areas)
Extreme – North Coast, Illawarra/Shoalhaven, Central Ranges, Northern Slopes and North Western
Severe – Far North Coast, New England, Far South Coast, Southern Ranges, Lower Central West Plains
This is the first time since new Fire Danger Ratings were introduced in 2009 that Catastrophic fire danger has been forecast for Sydney.
A statewide total fire ban has been declared for all areas of NSW for all of Monday and Tuesday.
-
night charlie
-
That sounds like what has been and is still happening in California. They used to do controlled burns to reduce the undergrowth, but environmentalists managed to get the burns stopped for air quality purposes. I wonder how the air quality compares now that about 1/4 of the state is on fire.
-
On top of that, there is no longer any forest management.
-
NOTE
the first in New South Wales are not a threat to our home .
and are unlightly going to be a threat but i will keep a watch in the fires near me web site and be aware of there the fires are

the fires are now a little closer to our house , roughly about 15km, smoke everywhere , like a heavy fog but it smells.
The only road we go to work on is in danger of being blocked off due to the fires and the smoke
i have been cleaning it the gutters and trimming the trees.
Fingers are crossed.
The fieros cant be moved due to the lack of the registration on the incomplete trailer
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-12-06/nsw-bushfires-mega-fire-north-of-sydney/11772568?fbclid=IwAR2RqMwqYOE1MF42sJbKpwUjViecdH1yxS-jw0jw4eATBaHe8PBhZaFHGsk
-
I guess the only consolation is that satellite images show the prevailing winds are blowing away from you. That helps to slow down the advance for the fire front.
If it were me, and I had to load up anything and escape, I wouldn't care whether the vehicle or apparatus was registered. Best you can do is to head westward as if you had much choice of roads. That huge mountainous region between you and Sydney has few roads with which to bring in equipment. Looks like the major means of fighting the fires is from the air.
-
I wouldn't care about roads, either.

-
When the thread showed a new post, I thought maybe you were on the air now.
-
Not on air today
the bells line of road is still closed
Winds are getting worse now and fires can come up again
If they do , i wont be able to get home
If they do , i have to be here to defend the house from fires
-
Hope you have a vehicle that's fully fueled and headed out your drive. Don't risk your life to protect your property. If it gets too close, get down to the main road and head West. You can't fight a fire like that with a garden hose.
-
Hey Charlie , we have a fire fighting hose about 2 and a half inches diam. and under very high pressure so much than i can shoot water into the front yard from the back yard.
That night we were fighting the fire all night long and never got any sleep . We had high speed winds and ember attack and used our hose prevented our back yard and trees from getting alight . With the local fire brigade help.
Our house and next doors house is saved and everything is ok
-
Glad to hear that. Hope things got back to a little normalcy so you could celebrate Christmas. Merry Christmas to you and Julie.
