A/C Repair

(1/1)

pgackerman:

The a/c in my 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT with original R12 has passed away.

What is the best (read last expensive) cooling solution?

There do not seem to be any (specifically) Auto A/C repair shops near me.

Fierofool:
You can get a complete HR6 kit including compressor, orifice tube, receiver dryer, and PAG oil from Ebay Motors for just over $200, last I checked.  Then you will need to buy a set of seals that I think are about $15.

There are a couple of guys in the club who are capable and equipped to do the replacement.  Maybe they will respond.  By all means, try to not damage the two pressure switches in your old compressor.  They work much better than the new style.

Raydar:
I flushed/rebuilt the A/C on my 4.9 car. But I'm still not happy with how it works. Still has a tiny leak that I cannot locate. Requires a can or two over a summer.
