Title: RUN FOR THE HILLS # 15
Post by: Fierofool on July 24, 2010, 08:44:37 pm
The 15th Annual Run For The Hills will be held in and around Asheville, NC.  The date is September 17, 18, and 19.

There are 5 or 6 hotels in the same area and I'm working on competitive bids from them.  As soon as I have the best price, I will post the hotel information.

There is an entrance to The Blue Ridge Parkway just a mile down the street and the Biltmore Estate is only a couple of miles away.  Make plans to come early Friday and see the sights so you can be rested for the Roller Coaster Redux on Saturday.

RFTH 15 Event Shirts will go on sale shortly on our home page.  We have held the price at $20 for a number of years, and I'm sorry to say we have to raise them to $22.50 for this year.  Deadline to order will be September 4.

The event hotel this year is the Fairfield Inn by Marriott, located near Biltmore Square Shopping Center.  Biltmore Square Shopping Center is on Brevard Road and the hotel is just across the road.  The rooms, with 2 beds are priced at $100 per night.  Regular rates are $130 per night.  You must reserve your room by phone and ask for the Georgia Fiero Club rates.  If there are any questions, ask for Kim, the manager.  Our prices will be offered through September 7 then they will return to the regular seasonal prices.

Here is a link to the hotel, for informational purposes only.  Please do not reserve your room through their webpage links.  You will not get the special Run For The Hills rates.

Hotel information is

What color are the shirts?  Also, I started to post about RFTH on Pennock's, but since nobody else had, I wondered if there was a reason?

The shirts will have the graphic from the first message in this thread. They will be the same high quality white cloth as last year.

i'm hoping to go , i've still got a noise that sounds like metel scraping or grinding. but it doesn't seem to do it except on long runs. flyboy seemed to think its transmission/transaxle related. but would something like that come and go? i was thinking of taking it to "ammco" but i hate to have them dig in tell me i need a hole lot different repairs.  flyboy just bring the white 88 gt.

Aren't rollercoaster cars supposed to be hooked together?  This year, I've also got a faster car.  They just finished up the engine yesterday.  Got some more go, and now we're putting some stoppers on it.

I've got several more chains.  Want me to hook you up, Tom?  I think I'm gonna hook to Dean.  Gotta have a quick disconnect from him just in case he decides to do some pirouettes again.

If you haven't ordered your tshirt, you need to do it quickly.  I talked to the printer and they can take orders until Sept. 7.  You can order either by mail or through our link on the home page.  There will be no tshirts available at the event, nor after the event.  The only shirts being printed are shirts that are prepaid.

Well, so far, it looks like Old One, 88_4mula and I are the only ones attending.  We're the only ones who've reserved rooms.  You only have until Sept. 7 to reserve at the club rates.

We will be providing some things based solely upon the number of rooms reserved.  If you wait, you will miss out.

Git 'er Done!

Nice setup, Pat.  I didn't see any vibration from it, either.  Just don't get caught with the screen open so you can see it.  It's against the law to have a video screen in view of the driver.  Just today, the driver who brings Mel's oxygen was given a ticket.  First, they stopped him for speeding, then when they saw the video screen, they wrote him a ticket for that, too.  This is a big box truck and he explained that the screen was for the backup camera.  The officer said that when he's not backing up it should be turned off.

Since mine sits behind me, I hope I can get away with it if I get caught.

If you didn't order your RFTH 15 Tshirt, it's too late.  The order has been placed.  But you still have a few more days to take advantage of the discounted hotel prices.

Surely that doesn't apply to Nav systems, does it?
Title: Re: RUN FOR THE HILLS # 15
Post by: Fierofool on September 09, 2010, 06:51:40 pm
Probably not.  I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for a gps.  Besides, you don't have to look at it with that lady telling you which way to go. :)

Don't give them any ideas with every city needing to raise revenue.

I plan to leave earlier in the morning.  Anyone else leaving Friday morning?  I'd like to be there around 2 after stopping somewhere for lunch.

Dean, I'd loan you my 85 except that it needs the rear calipers rebuilt.  The brakes are pretty weak.

For anyone not planning to be there until Saturday morning, The Drivers Meeting starts shortly after 8 AM at the Biltmore Square Shopping Center parking lot. Be sure to have your tank topped up when you arrive.

It's about a 4 hour trip from up here.  With lunch, make it 5.  I wanted to be there around 2, so we'd have to leave here about 9.  For me, the most convenient place is Exit 126 off I-85 where we normally meet at the church.  I can meet anyone anywhere north of Exit 126.

I checked the weekend weather forecast for Asheville and they are predicting Friday thru Sunday is Mostly Sunny to Clear with daytime temps from 81 to 85 and night temps in the mid to low 60's.

This is a perfect weekend to come out and enjoy some mountain scenery and foliage from the cockpit of one of the, if not the, BEST handling American sports car.

Carnut122, this was a run from the books, for the books.  It was a Redux of RFTH 10, except that we had a much more beautiful weekend than the first time and I think we tacked it a little harder.  Not to say that the first wasn't good.

I agree with you that this is one of the best runs we've had.  Maybe we ought forget about The Dragon and do this every 3 years.  I think with a little modification, I can put some more curves into it without losing any that we already have.

Here are a few pics I managed to snap during some of the spaces between curves.

man..i know this well. I tried to change rear plugs when i had the yellow one with a hot engine. Got my hand stuck in there against the firewall and my inner forearm touched the touched the plentum bolts. It sizzled like a stake and left a perfect bolt head brand on my arm for over a week..which would been a good story if it would have stayed

ride looks fun..what was the final turnout?..did all the buds from Michigan make it
Title: Re: RUN FOR THE HILLS # 15

The final count was 13.  My Brother's Father-In-Law passed away just a few minutes before we were about to leave, so he canceled.  Three broke down and didn't make it, but fortunately they were at home or just a few miles from home.  I think Whodeanie was the further from home99 , and that was just a few miles.

The Michigan people didn't show up this year.  There were a number of people who said they'd definitely be there that didn't show.  Haven't heard what happened to them.

Title: Re: RUN FOR THE HILLS # 15
Post by: Fierofool on October 03, 2010, 10:36:58 pm
They actually invited us to join with them.  At the time I got the invitation, I already had everything set up, and of course, they were going to the same place we went a couple years ago, plus RFTH is an established Third Weekend of September event.

They had actually been working on theirs since early in the year, and scheduled it to coincide with their free time.  Hopefully they will come up with an event exclusive to South Carolina so other clubs can join them and they can join us next year.  It's good to see them active.  They've been struggling for some time.
