Title: wtb 2.8 intake manifold!
Post by: f85gtron on April 26, 2015, 01:47:04 pm
I messed up my 2.8 intake manifold where the thermostat housing bolts to the manifold by doing a crap repair job.
Or if anyone can tell me if it's possible to weld a steel bolt or stud in its place while still in the car?

Aluminum brazing might work, but by no means in the car. Aluminum is a very good conductor of heat, and it would at the very least burn your gaskets.
In the car, how about J B Weld?

Thanks topnotch. I've previously used jb weld on this repair and it held for a year. Brazing would work better, but I'm worried, thesame as you, that the gaskets will burn out. I wonder if I could run some welding stick in there, just a little at a time if i could get away with it?

Ron, I think I have a complete top end, including the intake.  We're moving my Mother from the hospital to a nursing home, today.  Don't do anything until I can check this afternoon.

I do have a complete top end.  All 3 intakes and everything that bolts to them.  Problem is that I can't get them to you this week.  If you could wait until then, I could meet you in Greensboro, or if you need it earlier, you could drive up here to get it.

I looked closely at it and there's no evidence that it's ever had a leak around the thermostat housing.  I can also loan you the pushrod removal tool so you don't have to disturb the valve adjustment when replacing your lower intake to head gasket.

Then, if you want to wait until May 9, you could make the club meeting and pick them up.  LMK

Thanks. I'll take you up on it....unless i figure out how to repair mine effectively. I think I've ruined it.
I've found these are hard to find.
Whenever is most convenient for you. No problem meeting you in Greensboro, Madison, somewhere around there. Could even meet up around Washington, Ga. Rayle, my brother goes to school in Athens. I could get him to pick it up from you and bring it back here.
What's the damage?  I still owe for the headlight motor repair things too.

You owe me nothing for the bump stops.  I've got a couple of ideas on getting the manifold to you.  I'll send you an email about it.
