Post by: Fierofool on February 22, 2023, 05:50:39 pm
We have enough to sign on, we will enter the Statham Ga. St. Patricks Day Parade, March 18 at 10 AM.

We will need to be there by 8 AM.

I'll be there if we have enough Fieros.

i have 2 Fieros that could be in a parade, but only one driver (me). Maybe I'll find someone by then.

Just saw a GFC post on FB about the parade?
Are we in?  Is this now an official club activity?

If Pat can quickly get someone to drive his other car, I'll enter us.  Waiting on Jason Spencer to reply.

If you are planning to attend, you should go ahead now and get your decorations.  The dollar stores have had static cling decals that work well.

Today, I did find St. Patrick's static cling decals at Dollar (and a quarter) Tree.  They had about 6 different designs.  I didn't check Dollar General or any other stores.  In past years, stores like Michaels also had decals, as well as WalMart.

Currently, we have 4 solid cars and 5 if someone drives Pat's second car.  Since Gabe took our banner, we don't have anything to show our colors, so I'm having static cling decals made.  The lead car should have these on the door, and maybe the last car.

My friend Janice may be able to drive one of my cars, but she is not normally an early riser, and getting to the staging area by 8 am would definitely be early for her, so we'll see. But she's a good driver, and once owned a Fiero years ago.

We can throw candy and trinkets in this parade.

Planning on making hotel reservations tonight.

Is this parade a solid go for GFC?

By what time do we need to gather for the parade?

The application was submitted but they haven't responded.  When I talked with City Hall, they voiced their pleasure with having us join them.  Entry cutoff is tomorrow so I guess they had to wait for all entries to plan staging.  Should hear something during the week.  It's only a 1.2 mile parade route, so they should be able to do planning very quickly.

They are to let me know where we are to stage.  I think we should be there by 8 AM in order to find our spot and get the cars decorated.  The parade will start at Casto Trading Company 1898 Railroad Street, Statham, Ga.  There isn't a large parking lot so staging will likely be along 1st Street leading around to Railroad Street.

For those coming out University Parkway, Ga. Hwy 316, you can turn left at the traffic light at Bethlehem Road, Hwy 211.  It's just past the 16 mile marker.  At the end of Bethlehem Road, you may turn either left or right and cross the RR tracks at the first crossing to access Railroad Street.

Any word?

Need to cancel my hotel reservations if they don't want us to participate.

I overlooked something on the application.  They need a copy of our license and insurance card for each car in the parade.  Copy and email to the club email at GeorgiaFieroClub@Gmail.Com

I'll call them in the morning and let them know copies are on the way.

UPDATE:  We are in.  I spoke with City Hall this morning and the license and insurance requirement is basically for entrants that are carrying multiple persons, like large open bed trucks or pulling trailers.  They said that because we are in inside individual vehicles, it wouldn't be required.  Still, it may be a good idea to bring copies along with you.

Everyone be sure to dress warmly.  High for Saturday is forecast to be only 55°f.

It might also be good to bring along your FRS radios is you have them.  I still have Scott's pair of Cobra radios.  They have a USB charger base and a built in LED flashlight in them.  These are higher level radios and go for nearly $100.  He would like to sell them for $50.  Let me know if interested.

We could have as many as 7 or 8 cars in the parade.  The Hartlines expressed interest and may bring AeroDon to the parade.  Ron is coming in from Huntsville, and new members James McIntyre and Jeff Sands also seemed to be planning to join us with their respective gold 87GT and gold 86SE.

If there isn't a good food venue at the parade, maybe the group can have lunch at Friends in Bethlehem afterward.  It's on the way back home for most.

I've been looking at the best way to get to the staging area.  The Casto Trading Parking lot is really small.  So is Statham, but it can get crowded.

If coming in on Ga. 316, University Parkway, exit left onto Hwy 211 at the sign that points to Statham.  This is Bethlehem Road.  Don't confuse it with Carl-Bethlehem Road, which is also Hwy 211.

At the end you will see the railroad in front of you.  Turn left, go to the first crossing on the right (Mulberry Street) turn right and immediately right again onto Railroad Street.  This runs along the other side of the railroad and leads directly into the Casto Trading parking lot.

If coming out of Winder on Atlanta Hwy, follow alongside the railroad and as you near Statham there will be Statham Storage on the right.  Take the first RR crossing to the left onto Mulberry Street then immediately right onto Railroad Street and follow to the Casto Trading parking lot.

Casto Trading Company, 1898 Railroad Street, Statham, Ga.

I would like to know by tonight who is actually coming.  So far I only have Paul, Me, Pat, and Ron.  I need to let them know when I get there so we can keep a space big enough.

If anyone has problems along the way or finding the right place call me at Six 7 Ate, Fore Six Seven, Won 7 Fore Too.

Haven’t been sure if I could make it, I’ve been having problems with my drivers rear caliper. Been waiting on a shipment from the Fierostore and it hasn’t arrived yet. Wheel/hub heat up and it’s worse if I drive it on the highway, was hoping my calipers would arrive so I could go. I took it apart last weekend and lubed everything but it’s still doing it.

Sounds like you have a brake line that's coming apart inside and won't let the pressure back off.  My 86, the one Scott had, did that with a brand new caliper and it caught fire.  You might try changing the rubber brake hose first and save some money on a caliper.

A few shots of the day.  We were the first to arrive but the last in line due to a snafu by the staff.  They didn't put us in the lineup though they acknowledged we should have been.  Anyway, it was a nice parade.

Looks like a great day for a parade!

It was a pretty day but cold and windy.  Temps were just above freezing early on and the wind was blowing the static clings off our cars while we were waiting to enter the parade.

I just found out that Monroe, Ga. has a very big parade, so maybe next year that can be our target.
