Hmmmm, I don't know. I'm actually giving up on the painting the way I was doing it. Just wasn't happening the way I wanted. BUT I am still changing the color. I don't know what else I need right now but we can always work something out. I'm easy...

Ran great, but needs an allignment and the fuel gauge is WAY OFF! It'll probably run out of fuel while the gauge still tells me there is half a tank in it.

Even just primered in black, the Phoenix is almost worthy of being in the St. Patrick's Day parade.
But chances are, we'll have new paint on it before then.

Trying hard to get it done

There is actually a thread on Pennocks about this issue. It involves removing the sending unit from the tank and sanding the resistor that the metal piece on the float arm opposite the float slides up and down on. You can use your ohm meter to check different spots. I believe 90 ohms is full, and 0 is obviously empty.

Nice car man..... I had those same wheels in Chrome and 18x8 on my last 86 GT and they looked awesome. Amazing chrome on those... I sure miss that damn car. Should have never sold it. Enjoy your nice fiero...peace

A little tip for the issue with the gauge showing way over full.
I waited until Anne had driven a lot of the tank empty (about 3-4 gallons left in the tank).
I then went and found an empty parking lot and started driving serpentines and circles, hitting the brakes occasionally for about 3-4 minutes. This causes the floater to move up and down rapidly and it substitutes cleaning the slider portion of the floater. While this may only be a temporary fix, her gauge is now almost accurate again nonetheless.
I actually came up with this fix all on my own, as I was just too lazy at the moment to drop her tank ;D

But to my embarassment, after reassembling the Phoenix, Anne complained that she gets no warm air when she turns on the heater. Turns out I forgot to put in the airduct behind the dashboard, so I now have to take out the entire dash again  :(

Hey, not a bad idea. Whatever works I guess. Also, have fun with the dash.

I finished the dash on Saturday. Was going to do it Sunday, but I had to take my daughter to Statesboro to pick up some parts from some guy with two big black dogs down there ;D

BTW: Thanks Matt

Something new in the Phoenix:

Auto-dimming rear view mirror with compass and temperature.
Also has the option to connect to the backup switch, which disables the autodimming.

Thanks to Roger for some tips, I got it installed and working in less than 3 hours ;D

Unfortunately it turns out that the A/C on the Phoenix is not holding a charge, leaks down after about 2 days  :-[
Poor Anne, Daytona is going to be hot

Now that the Phoenix is back home and running great, I took some pointers from Dewey and transformed the dash and interior doorpanels to black using a special vinyl and fabric color.

All black interior is just stylish - in my opinion.
In the pics it still looks greyish (with flash), but it really is a nice black.

If you're going to do that, get the Phoenix stuffed with parts you may need, prior to having it shipped over.

From David Brill yesterday:
Don:
It would be wonderful for you to raise the Phoenix once again. It is not running, and has not been, for some years now so please tell me what next. I could take it to a regular mechanic to troubleshoot for what I assume will be an inexpensive electronic part, and get a good battery for it, to get it running again. When last it ran, there were no serious issues, just the repeated engine kills that left my daughter, who happily carried tools to change out the electronic module, wanting something more reliable. The current engine-kill occurred about when she had found her VW Golf and the module was not the answer. So let me know. I’ll work with you In any way I can be helpful.
Nettie is currently in London area going to school for Occupational Therapy.
Thanks for getting back to us,
Brill

So my question is: Would anybody be willing to go and at least do a quick troubleshooting, to see if it really could be as simple as a bad ignition module?
I would of course compensate for the trouble.

Thnx,

\D

I had thought this was for the ICM.  Maybe it was referring to a different module.

I spoke direct with David some time ago and he said he had replaced the ICM after it quit.  That's what he was referring to when he said this time it wasn't the ICM that was the problem.  Shanine's 88 GT Purple Haze is still sitting down there, too.  I think it's under primer now.  Has been since before it was parked.

Right now my January calendar is open except for 1 undetermined Wednesday when I have a City Board meeting.   Let's get together and set up a time with David.  He had told me he was even willing to take it to someone to have it fixed.  That was when Ron was still in Augusta, but he never got around to doing it.

Maybe this is obvious to other people, but not to me.  Why does David have 2 Fieros, just sitting?
Title: Re: A Teaser - The Duchess' new "Phoenix" GT
Post by: Fierofool on December 06, 2019, 07:21:56 pm
David bought both Fieros from Don.  The 88 was for his son, Jesse who couldn't drive a stick shift.  The 85 was for David.  David got broadsided on his Harley and suffered injuries that wouldn't allow him to drive a stick shift for a while.  David is somewhere around 6' 4" or taller.

David's daughter, Nettie could drive a stick shift and began to drive the car.  When it had problems, she took it to Don and watched how he repaired things or he directed her and let her do it.  When Don passed, she brought to me, and I did the same.  She wasn't afraid to get into anything on the car.  She had so much problem with it that she purchased a more reliable vehicle.  The VW Golf.

Jesse was turning into his drive and a lady in a small SUV failed to slow down and rear-ended him at about 55.  Tha Driver repaired the car and primed it for painting.  After getting the car back, I believe it quit and was towed home where it sits.  Jesse went to Europe as part of his desire to be in theatre.  Later, Nettie also went to Europe, though I believe a different country.

I've driven a Supra.  The old Supra from the 70's or 80's.  It ain't no slouch.  I think it had an inline 6.

The new ones can outdo many late model muscle cars.

I raced a '94 Supra.  I think it was 6 liters.  Somewhere, I saw that year was a 2.4L, though.  It was noisy.  Very noisy.  It was not fast.  My Firehawk outran the Supra.

Been sitting in a yard under a tree for 5 + years I believe. When it was parked it was not starting. Turned over but would not fire off. Dash cracks, console warped, seats need covers. I didn’t take photos but it’s not far if you want me to sometime next week. Assuming it’s still there.
