Title: 2012 Annual Club Picnic
Post by: Donster on April 15, 2012, 09:41:47 am
As we discussed at the meeting, the suggestion had been made to have the annual picnic a bit earlier in the year as opposed to when we had it last year.

Our house, in combination with the next monthly club meeting on May 12th
Guests can arrive as early as 10 AM
BBQ Grill will be fired up by 1 PM

I'd like to start getting a list together of who will attend and bring items to picnic.

Below is an example of last year's line-up:

85GT (Hot Dog and Hamburger Buns & Baked Beans)
Fierofool +1 (Potato Salad, Home Made Chili & Watermelons)
Mr. Fiero GTB & Mrs. 70 Chevelle (Potato chips, tortilla chips & salsa, and an assortment of cut-up fruits)
AeroDonamic +1(2)?
TopNotch (Napkins, plates, cups, flatware)
GrannyLinda (Ketchup, Mustard, Mayo, Pickles, Hot Dogs, Burgers, Lettuce and Tomatoes, red and Vidalia Onions)
Duchess & The Don (Cajun Pasta Salad - Some type of German cake or two)
88_4mula + 1(?) (Crockpot of Mac & Cheese)

Please post here and let us know what you can bring. Anne and I will start it off:

Duchess & Donster (Cajun Pasta Salad - Some type of German cake or two)

How about if the club buys the meat?

Isn't that how we did it last year?
Did we re-imburse you and Linda?

I have no problem with that, if everyone agrees, we will have the cub purchase the meats - after we have a somewhat accurate headcount.

All agree?

Yes I did get reimbursed.
Don I think you should buy the meat since the picnic is going to be at your house.
Also you might want to have the meat on a separate receipt for the club books.

I'll pick up the meat and franks.  Once we have a headcount, I'll get enough for one burger and one dog for each person attending, plus 10%.  There's a market over this way that has very fresh meat.  Fresher than Kroger, Publix or Ingles.

FieroFool, please note: I prefer Mesquite-grilled 100% Kobe beef burgers with a coriander and cumin rub, dressed with Vidalia onions (1/8" thick by 3.25" diameter), dill pickle chips, fresh lettuce, and Heinz http://www.amazon.com/Heinz-Limited-Edition-Ketchup-Balsamic/dp/B006ZLCN4Y/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1334691775&sr=8-19 (http://www.amazon.com/Heinz-Limited-Edition-Ketchup-Balsamic/dp/B006ZLCN4Y/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1334691775&sr=8-19) tomato ketchup with Balsamic vinegar, on a (seedless) onion roll, accompanied by (sweet) cole slaw and haricot rouges honey/maple-baked BBQ beans.  Thank you.

This cookout isn't just for dues paying members.  Got a Fiero?  Bring a side dish, come out and meet some of the nicest Fiero folks in the state of Georgia.

Edited to add:   If you do plan to come, we need to know at least 2 days early so I can purchase enough meats.  That applies to members and non-members.

We posted exactly that on our web site also (had 525 hits so far!).

Pat, how about posting it also on our club's main web site?

Picnic is "open-end" as far as time goes.
Previous year, the last guests didn't really leave until it was dark ;D

Starting time is posted in the link a 10 AM, but that was just meant for people who want to come over early and help set up.

Plan on it being an "All-Day-Event" for all I care. We'll be here.

If I could make some suggestions for any who have not signed up or are undecided on what to bring.  Wal-Mart has some great BBQ beans in the deli area.  Also, some ruffles and french onion dip made from sour cream and Lipton Onion Soup mix, or a veggie plate of carrot strips, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, and some salad dressing dips or spinach dip and Fritos.

Melanie and I will bring some soda crackers and sliced jalapenos to go with the chili, and some small bowls to eat from.  Our oxygen supplier hasn't been able to get the larger tanks we use away from home, so here's hoping Melanie will be able to make it.

I'm glad "Chef" Charlie posted that!  ;D

We really hope Mel can make it, and we'll try to keep her as comfy as possible!

BTW: We still need at least one large (folding?) table for seating outside.

Can somebody provide one?

I spoke with Dean today, and he's actually going to take a break from the moving and come on over for the picnic around 1 PM.
Despite all the work that still needs to be done, he probably needs a break even more.

Good turn-out, heaps of fun, Anne and I really enjoyed it. Thank you all for coming and participating.

However.............

.........and this really bothered me.......

...........if you come to my house and break bread with me, the way I was raised, YOU AT LEAST SAY GOODBYE TO THE LADY OF THE HOUSE!

Leaving after you've gotten what you came for, without saying a word, is behaviour indicative of bad manners.
I don't really care if you say goodbye to me, but I think my wife deserves at least that much respect after all the trouble she went thru making sure that all is prepared.

Other than that, we had a great time! ;D

Melanie and I were among the guilty.  After Mel walked up the hill, she was worn out and couldn't make it back down to say goodbye, but she did call Anne about 7:15 to say goodbye and to thank her for the day.  Melanie said she really enjoyed herself and the company.

Thank You, Thank Anne and all who came.

I thought Pat and I said goodbye.
Sorry if we didn't.
By the time we got home I went straight for the REALLY  strong
pain medication and wrapped up in my blanket to get warm and
fell asleep.

NO, Charlie, Mel, Pat & Linda are not among the guilty!

I'm sure the person(s) I am referring to hardly ever read our forum, except when they need help or parts, but I needed to speak my mind.

We are sorry Mel felt bad after going up the hill, but we are glad she was able to come over as long as she did.

Linda, sorry you were in pain, but happy you came over too.

And we also liked the fact that some new faces showed up, Fiero owners or not!
