Ok so i have been considering an engine swap fro a while now. The engine i was going to buy got sold and i considered a 3.4 instead. Then the other day i saw an add for a 3800SC for $300. Today i went out to check it out because he said a seal blew and was leak oil bad and that there was a ticking noise coming from the timing chain dampener. When i got there he pulled the engine out showed me everything. The compression was good the timing chain still held tension so it didnt come off or skip timing, the seal was the front main seal (which are easy to replace on those engines. So, he wanted $300. I was able to talk him down to $250 for the engine and everything it comes with AND $50 for a good engine stand. So now the engine is sitting at Lee's and this coming week starts the process of ordering everything to replace all the gaskets and get the engine ready to be put in :) ETA is about 2 maby 3 months if everything goes as planned!

Anxious to see how it turns out.
This thread is no good without pictures! ;D
Start a build thread young man.

will do! i tried to remember to get pics of us loading and unloading but i forgot >.< Next time im at Lee's is when ill have the gasket set to start tearing it apart. So ill take alot of pics then :)
P.S. was thinking about painting the supercharger and the valve covers. Anyone wanna give some opinion of color that may look good and somewhat match the car?

When you start your build thread, download our photo image poster from the Administrator's Announcement section. If you use one of the online services like Photobucket, they will disappear over time. Other services require registering with them just to view pictures. Our image poster will keep the pictures visible as long as the forum is alive, and then a while after that, too. Pat has also provided features to upload videos, too.

will do!and where should i post the build thread? in general?

If there will be a lot of technical data in your thread, put it in the tech section.

well probably not a whole lot. Im having lee help me with most of it and buying the harness from a forum member for a good price. It will pretty much be a thread about me doing it lol

Congrats! And best of Luck!
-
Please be sure to post a photo of the FRONT END of you car, too.
Once you get the 3800 in, it may be the last time I ever see it...

gold what else?

Whodeanie may be able to give you some tips. I think he's been using some kind of powder coating that looks like a metal finish.

I've got first dibs on the engine-stand once Chaz is done with the swap!

spartanzz,
when I get home, i will try to remember to re-download PIP and post a picture of mine
I just finished the paint, and although I am slightly biased, I think it looks great!! Blue and black because the car is eventually going to be a dark grey.

Ok cool man! Yeah I'm getting ready to start ordering parts very soon. I wish I had like 2 or 3000 right now >.< but alas I have to basiclly order parts every pay check. Should take about 2 or 3 months to get all the parts. What ill do is build slowly while its out of.the car and the actual swap into the fiero should only take a few days. I'm ordering a harness from a forums member on pennocks and haveing the pcm tuned by sinister. Those will be first, which are the hardest parts of the swap. So if things go as planned ill order the engine gasket set and replace all the gaskets replace the dampened then hook everything up like the harness, sensors, and all that junk. Then its just getting the clutch and flywheel. I also have been given a tip that a couple ppl have park numbers for the violent lines and fuel lines I will need so that it will be a quick process for this :) once I get a chance to go out to lee's place I will start taking pics and set up my build thread in the tech tips section and will more than likley make a build thread on pennocks and post all the pics on my facebook. I CAN'T WAIT! :P

I know your excitement!! ;D if all goes well, mine will be sitting right next to yours at Lees!
-
Cool man! Yeah my birthday is next month (May 23rd) and my grandparents mentioned helping out with the swap for my bday so keeping my fingers crossed that I can get this thing done sooner. We should totally take a drive together when they are both up and running and get some cool pics of um both ;)
-
sounds good, i am gonna hold you to that!
could you PM me with some details about the harness you are getting? I was gonna have Lee do it but he would rather not.
-
Yeah I'm actually buying it from a pennocks member who has an extra he doesn't make them often he just did it for his swap got it running then is parting it out so your best guess is either do it youself or get it from the forums if you look up "quality built swap harness" on the forums you should fine the guy who makes them.
If you think about giving a shot at doing.it yourself contact Ryan at sinister performance he has all the pin outs and its daily easy just have to be maticulous.
