Title: JULY MEETING INFO - DIFFERENT LOCATION - PLEASE READ
Post by: Raydar on June 21, 2014, 07:57:22 pm
All,
As we have discussed at previous meetings, the July meeting will be held at the Hot Summer Wheels Car and Motorcycle show in Villa Rica GA. The date is July 12th, from 10 AM until 4 PM.
This is the regular meeting date, the second Saturday of the month.
The show will be held at the Clinton Nature Preserve in Douglas County.

Directions:
From Atlanta, take I-20 west bound to Post Road. Turn left (south) and go about a mile. Turn right onto Ephesus Church Road. Go about 1.5 miles, and look for Clinton Park on the right. Go a hundred yards or so down the entrance road, and turn left toward the registration area. There should be people pointing the way.

Here is the event info page, including online registration.
http://www.hotsummerwheels.com/

Here is the event page on Facebook.
http://www.facebook.com/HotSummerWheelsShowAndShine

Registration is $20 per car. There will be prizes and trophies.
There is a special 50/50 prize with half going to an individual, and half going to the club with the largest turnout. (Nudge, nudge.)

Here is a JPG of the flyer/registration form. (You can also register online or on the day of the show.)

There will be room to set up chairs or even an EZ-up (awning) if desired.
GREAT barbecue, and other great food and refreshments will be available.
Live music and a very laid back, relaxing atmosphere are both a part of this show.
Very nice playground facilities are available for the kids.
The park is also "dog friendly". (Please clean up after your pet, of course.)

All proceeds go to benefit Boy Scout Troop 39.
Troop info here: http://www.hotsummerwheels.com/about/

Here's a link to last year's (updated) thread, including some event pictures.
http://www.gafiero.org/bbs/index.php?topic=1405.0

If I've missed anything, Scoutdad (Bo) will probably hop in and remind me.

Thanks!

The show is shaping up nicely. The Troop has been working on the trophies. Some of the most unique you  will ever see, as they are handmade and 95% wood. Find us on the https://www.facebook.com/HotSummerWheelsShowAndShine (https://www.facebook.com/HotSummerWheelsShowAndShine) page, and see pics. of last years trophies. The bands are gearing up for a wide variety of music, and don't forget the silent auction. There will be some stuff from SoundProof Auto that might interest you.

It'll be a good time for all, and the Scouts are thankful that there is community support, as our boys are able to do things that most 12 year old's are not able to do, such as manning sailboats, caving, climbing, kayaking, horseback riding, hiking approximately 127 miles over the past year, zip-lining, and much more. We were able to raise enough for each boy's Scout account to have $337 apiece last year, which helped with funding these activities.

We're heading to summer camp in the morning, and then getting back into show mode! Thanks to all who are willing to come out for a day and help our Boy Scouts continue to grow, advance and thrive!

We're shooting for the club participation award.  It doesn't matter what your car looks like.  Bring it out.  I heard that the 50/50 Jackpot will go to a single lucky ticket holder and the club with the most participation.  That can help us tremendously with our Warrior Project.

So wash the bugs and dirt off the car and the brake dust off the wheels.  Get the dog's nose prints and drool off the windows.  Vacuum out the cigarette butts and snot rags and come out for a day of really good live music.  The big bonus is that you'll get to see Raydar and Aerodonamic.  I'm even going to do a karaoke bit as the last song of the day.  Believe me, when I sing, it will be the last song because everyone will leave.

We need someone to drive the Club Courtesy Car to the show.  Stick shift.  We can enter it as a survivor.  If you have more than one car, let's find someone to drive it and let's enter it in the show, too.

Can I suggest to the Club President that if anyone enters 2 or more Fieros, that the club pay the additional entry fee?

Let's let Raydar know how many cars we will have by July 5 so he can stake out an area for us before everyone else gets there.

We now have someone to drive the club car, too.  One of Ray's friends said he'd drive Pat's and another of Ray's friends said he would love to drive the club car and go to the car show.  They both want to follow us over.

I will also bring a 10x10 canopy and two folding chairs.  Some friends visiting from Florida probably will come along, who I can press into service to hand out Wounded Warrior flyers under the tent. We should have plenty of people to rotate collecting donations and handing out flyers.

I might not subject keeping my visitors there the whole time, but I will be glad to leave the extra tent and chairs if someone will throw them in their car and hang onto them until the next meeting...  ;- )

I have absolutely no problem with any modifications to the press release... whatever makes it work! ;- )

I will still be glad to print the 200 flyers at home to save a few bucks, but I believe we also should have some sort of big Wounded Warrior banner printed...  thoughts, anyone?

I looked at Staples Printing.  They can do an 8 foot banner on the lightweight indoor vinyl material for $65.  If you use the design for the club banner, remove "We Drive Excitement" from either side of the logo and insert "Warrior Project" on either side, You've got almost ready-made art.  I wouldn't use Wounded Warrior Project for fear of a trademark infringement and because they weren't interested in helping find a recipient.

Ron, what do you think of hanging this modification by Fiero GTB, instead of the club banner?

If we had a way, it would be good if we could get the Warrior Project car out there for others to see and hang the banner over it.  Still waiting on an answer about soliciting donations.  Raydar's checking on it for us.

What Will We Do With The Banner When The Project Is Over ?

Yes, Ma'am, It's a suggestion.  I don't know what we should do with it when the project is completed.  If there's enough objection to it, then I'll pay for it.

My son and I would like to go and take his car but I am having issues with it. I have not had time to set the timing right.

And I messed with the Automatic transmission cable and now it shifts sooooo hard it is not drivable. I will try this week to get it running and Let everyone know.

Either way we will come to the show and help. I also need to know if anyone wants anything off of the red donor car. If I don't drive the Fiero, I will drive my truck and bring parts.

Cant wait.

Bo has given us the go-ahead to distribute flyers, and display the "warrior" banner.
He said that he would allow us to supply a judge for the car show in lieu of paying a vendor fee. Actually, that would be preferred.

I spoke with Don Hulse, and he seemed excited at the idea of being a judge. Said that he would do it.
(I asked Don, because we all know how particular he is about his own car. I'm sure that he would be good at it.)

Having said that, Don will be only the 3rd judge. I'm sure that if someone else were interested in being a judge, that Bo would welcome the assistance. There are likely going to be ~100 cars there.

I told Bo that we were looking at 11 cars. We will have the first 4 spaces in the first 3 rows. (I have an idea to support additional cars if they show up.)
Last year there was plenty of room between the rows of cars to erect pop-up shelters. I'm bringing one. I think Charlie is bringing one.  I think that Charlie mentioned a 3rd?

We might be able to erect the "warrior" shelter up with the vendors, if that's desirable. I'll need to ask Bo about that. I don't see why not, though.

Tim said he cannot be a judge because he has friends who will be with him and he'll only be there part of the day.  He is also bringing the 10 x 10 canopy that we had at the Warrior work day in May.  I'll also bring the big blue canopy but will be using it as our Warrior Project tent in the vendors area.  I would appreciate if someone could help or relieve me at the vendors tent.

Tim is busy with having banners and the first page of the flyers printed.  The first page of the flyer will be placed in the cars at the show.  We've found paper banners that will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $15 each.  They give non-profits a big break on prices.

The second page of the flyer will be a hand-out at the vendors canopy.  Tim and I are printing some of those on our home printers.  Anyone else who can print some, please contact me.

Just show up.  They'll know you're part of the Fiero club.  No one else would have us as members.  On second thought maybe you should tell them at the gate that you're part of the Georgia Fiero Club.  They may not know what a Fiero is and put you with them Furrarries.

Bring your folding chairs, maybe a cooler (no alcohol allowed, I believe) and bring that other guy along, too.  I think Raydar says judging begins around 1 AM.

Fiero GTB just informed me that Office Depot has given us a great deal on the printing.  Three Banners and 200 flyers for a total of $68.00, plus an extra 25% off.

Correction: the total was $68.65, 'including' the 25% off thanks to the generosity of an Office Depot printing center employee. By the time I talked the poor guy down 50% on the flyer printing to match the price FieroFool got from Staples, and he threw in the additional 25% off coupon he pulled out from under his counter, we actually ended up paying less than half. ;- )

The total was $144.24 and I paid $68.65.

(GrannyLinda: I will bring the receipt to the show if you can please bring my reimbursement check). (Also, pls bring my donation receipts from the last mtg where I gave 50% of the proceeds from all my car stuff, and the safety equipment/tools/etc. to the club.)

Best,

Randy, is there any way you can get there in time to get the car into the show before noon?  Judging starts at 1 but most of the lanes will be covered with chairs and canopies probably by noon so you can't drive into stage with us.  You could still enter under the Georgia Fiero Club banner, though and give us another car on the list for best participation.

TRAFFIC DELAYS THIS WEEKEND NEAR CAR SHOW

From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

“Wise metro motorists will remember where they don’t want to be – I-285 on the northwest side and I-20 anywhere,” GDOT spokesman David Spear said.

From 9am Friday, though 5am Monday, two westbound lanes blocked between Liberty and Post roads (exit for the car show).  Hope the show organizers are aware of this?

Liberty Road is actually west of Post Road. Hard to say how badly it will affect traffic before the Post Rd. exit.
I would recommend exiting at Highway 5 (the exit before Post Road) and turn right (North) to Hwy 78. Stay in the center lane, and go straight for about a mile.
Highway 5 dead-ends into Hwy 78, about a mile north of I-20. Turn left, and follow Hwy 78 to Post Road (It's about 3 miles) and turn to the left onto Post Rd. (Post Road meets Hwy 78 at an angle. It's less than a 90 degree turn. There are signs, but it's easy to drive past.)
After you turn onto Post Rd, you're less than a mile from I-20.
Once you cross the bridge over I-20, you'll go .9 miles to Ephesus Church Road. Turn right at the redlight.
Clinton Park is ~ 1 mile down on the right.

(For what it's worth, Hwy 78 runs parallel to - and slightly north of - I-20, all the way to Alabama.)

Clinton Park is ~ 1 mile down on the right.

(For what it's worth, Hwy 78 runs parallel to - and slightly north of - I-20, all the way to Alabama.)

Great, thanks!  I'm leaving a few mins early just to make sure I get there with plenty of time to set up one of the 10x10 tents...

We're home! About to hit the showers.
Thanks to everyone who came out and helped to make this a success for the Scouts.

I believe a good time was had by all.
My face has been 'lobsterized' and my ears will never be the same.

The first person that hears how Don is doing please put it in this thread, thanks.
