Title: dogbone covers
Post by: GTRS Fiero on December 07, 2017, 07:48:05 pm
I cannot find it right now, but my understanding of the dogbone covers was that the plastic one fit the early model Fieros, but would not work on the later model Fieros.  I had Rodney's cover, which worked fine, until the work was done on my Fiero.  Now, the cover is all rusty, and missing the attachment hardware.  I guess I could replace the unit in its entirety, but am considering options.

Does the plastic dogbone cover fit the '88 V6?

I guess I get to answer my own question.

Well, it does fit (loosely) in the hole.  I'm not sure if it's better or worse than previous years.  From what I understand, there was an issue with the plastic covers coming loose.

I compared, size-wise, to Rodney's steel dogbone cover.

As you can see, they aren't quite the same size or shape.  I need to clean up both covers some more, and find the screw fasteners for Rodney's cover.

Seems the 88 didn't have a cover.  When I had the Lil Duke Coupe, I installed one, only to have it disappear.  Installed another with the same result.  Both fit loosely and came from an earlier Fiero at PullAPart.  I suppose you could clean up the metal one, spray it with some high temp engine paint and bake it in the oven.  250* for 30 minutes will work.

Rodney sells covers (http://rodneydickman.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=79&osCsid=0adfebe103c17112278b06b1c23f5307) for the '85-'88 V6.  His covers--if installed correctly--don't come loose.

Rodney's cover fits the 88 duke, also.

Yes, it should.  There's no difference in the chassis of any of the 88's.  I do remember someone on PFF posting that the 88 didn't come with a cover.

I remember this, also, but when I went to look up the info, I couldn't find it.
