Title: Melanie in the hospital
Post by: GTRS Fiero on December 24, 2017, 08:06:42 am
Created this thread to consolidate info.

After showing flu-like symptoms, Melanie has been hospitalized since Tuesday, I believe.  She is expected to remain in the hospital through Christmas.

This must be worse than the flu, since I read that the hospital has requested her presence through the end of the year.  Whatever the reason for the extended stay, I'm sure Melanie wouldn't let anyone down or disappoint the hospital by making an early departure.

Prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery, Melanie.

Well, she did dissapoint them.  She demanded they start the discharge process.  Going home tomorrow.

Pneumonia and Type A flu on top of the other pulmonary issues.

Good for her!

Pneumonia is not fun.  I know nothing about types of flu, but I guess identifying it is the first step.  It could be worse, but pneumonia is a pain to eradicate.

Song for Melanie, ”I'll be Home for Christmas”.

Is Melanie home?

Yes, she's home.  We got home sometime around 1:30 Christmas Day.  She doesn't have the energy to be bad.  Got her into the house and into her recliner.  She slept in it last night and I slept on the sofa in case she had any problems during the night.  She is doing better today and is moving about the house with some reservations.

Now, our daughter is in the hospital.  She was transporting a patient and developed a bad headache and generally wasn't feeling very well.  After delivering the patient they drove back to their base area and she went to ER.  Waiting on word from our son in law as to what's happening.

After sleeping in a recliner, she felt better.  Well, she must have been feeling badly.

I'm sorry to read about your daughter.  I hope for the best.

Melissa just got home.  Glucose level was sky high.  Her endocrinologist won't prescribe insulin and wants her to control it with oral meds.  After this, I think she will be changing doctors.

Maybe that will help with some other things, too.  It's very annoying when you go to a doctor, knowing what needs to be done, and only needing a prescription, and they only want to do things that will cause problems without solving problems.

My mother's doctor is prescribing surgery for the sore muscles in my mother's back.  He has my mother talked into it.  Worse, he's prescribing opioids for her current pain.  I know nothing about medical stuff, but in the computer world, I fix the biggest problem, and the small problems usually go away, in the process.

She is well enough that I could go to MikeMac's to have oil rotated and tires changed on the truck.  😁

"oil rotated and tires changed"?  Well, her condition hasn't hurt your sense of humor any.

Has Melanie recovered?

Not fully.  Every episode leaves her with a little less lung capacity.  For that reason we are in a self-imposed isolation.  She doesn't wish to leave the house except for necessary reasons like doctor's appointments.  At least until maybe the spring when the flu season should be well behind us.  I am careful as to who I'm around when I have to go anywhere.

How long will the isolation last?  Until Spring?

I don't know how you handle groceries.  My kid brother always insists that grocery stores are worse than doctors' offices, because sick people still eat, and they go to the grocery store while they're contagiius, before symptoms develop.

She says until Spring for herself.

I can do grocery shopping during the day when most people are at work.  Anyone who's coughing a lot can be avoided, except if you're checking out and they come up behind you.  The stores have sani-wipes at the entrance and the cart corral in the store.  Wipe the cart handle and hands.

I'll be there if she's well enough on that day that she can be left alone.  I just have to be vigilant.

Right now she's functioning very well.  Well enough that I can go to MikeMac's to have the truck worked on and maybe stop on the way back for a haircut.
