Grocery store shelves are being stripped of all bread, milk and toilet paper as the weather prognosticators are heralding the POSSIBILITY of some wintery mix somewhere in Northeast Georgia. Heavy rain has been forecast and at least they got that right. BUT WAIT!!! If the sound emanating from my windshield was any indication as I drove home from our December Club Meeting, they got it right. Surely sounded like some sleet was mixed among the raindrops. At least maybe 2 dozen droplets of sleet. I guess that counts as a wintery mix, doesn't it?

I was wondering about that forecast. They were predicting snowmageddon, for us, but that quietly went away.
-
Yep, they never come back and say "I screwed up. I was wrong. I was just playing Chicken Little."
-
Ha! That would be half of their broadcast.
-
They don't have to say they screwed up in my neck of the woods. It was sleeting on and off all afternoon and evening, but for the last hour it has been snowing. It looks like about an inch so far but still has at least 8 hours to go and is getting heavier as time goes on.
We will let you know tomorrow how it works out.

Is 1" a lot for your area?

1” is usually all ice or lethal combo. I’d rather drive in 1” snow than 1” ice any day!
We’re located just north enough to get cold air, but just south enough for humidity, so we get ice instead of nice fluffy snow.

13 inches in North Carolina.
Yes, not a fan of driving on ice, or on snow-covered ice.
-
We only ended up with a little over 2" but that is enough as we don't have any snow removal equipment up here on our gravel roads. Hopefully we won't get too much more tonight. It is pretty out here though.

Living in the country of supposedly romantic snowy Christmas, we have been experiencing temps in the upper 40s and lower 50s (F) the last two weeks. Looks nothing like Winter here. :-(
But we have had 2 weeks of nonstop rain.
Cheers from warm Germany!

I'm a country boy. Snow never stopped us. We cut holes in the ice every few hours for the livestock, put a heater in the pig house, and kept the cows moving. We used chains on the tires, and brought shovels and boards with us. It was about 30 miles to town.
I remember temps of -20 to -25 degrees F. When we milked the cow, the milk would freeze before we could get it to the house. We had a pond freeze solid, which was odd to see.
Perhaps the most beautiful thing is the trees after freezing rain, when the sun starts to come out, and there are several inches of fresh snow on the ground.
I never had a snow day, growing up. Even if we had to get up at 3am to take care of the livestock, then go to school.
I remember staying up all night to protect the livestock from wolves and such. I remember shooting wild boars, and they would almost instantly freeze.

So, what happened? NC got some snow.

Lots and lots of rain everywhere and some strong winds up to 35 mph gusts in a few areas. Any frozen stuff was more east and northward around Sarge, Old One, Scottb and Budgetman72. Some of the higher elevations got a good coating.
Last night we had some below freezing temps and most of the northern 1/3 of the state either closed or delayed opening for 2 hours, today. It's now dry but chilly.
