Title: Bad thermostat?
Post by: GTRS Fiero on July 23, 2019, 06:22:33 pm
My temp gauge is still erratic.  Since the gauges are calibrated correctly, the assumption is that the issue is the thermostat.  The temp can be fine for miles, then the needle may bounce around.

Have you experienced this?

Could also be air pockets.

Could be.  It sounded as if it had an upset stomach, for about 200 miles.  Lots of gurgling.  The thermostat doesn't seem to be available locally.

Where can you buy a stock thermostat for the Fiero?

There's an Advance Auto Parts store in Ferguson and Florissant.  Figured you might not want to go to Ferguson so I checked Florissant.  They have the 180 and 195 Carquest thermostats.  They're right on Lindberg.

Yeah, they can order it.  Same at Autozone, O'Reilly's, NAPA, Southwest Auto, etc.  It will arrive in 2 days.

Ferguson is very close, as is Berkely.  Both rough areas.  No issue going to either, but certain places in each are not safe.

I believe it was.  The system pulled about a quart of coolant from the reservoir.  No more gurgling.

Ended up replacing the thermostat, which was in poor condition.
