Title: Heat tape?
Post by: GTRS Fiero on August 08, 2019, 08:32:47 pm
There is some sort of silver tape on the wiring loom from the temp gauge sender.  The tape is yellowing, and annoys me.  Where can I get a replacement?

Without looking, It might be a fiberglass wrap similar to what came on the coil to ICM and on the early EGR tubes.

Rodney has a similar material that he puts on cables.  Maybe he will sell you some scraps, assuming he has access to the cable manufacturing site.

Yeah I've never seen it for sale. Heck I would buy a 20 foot roll of the stuff! I could redo all my lines that have it.

I saw a big piece of HVAC ductwork on the side of the road today.  Probably came out of a mobile home that was being transported.  Made me wonder if that metalized mylar material with a little insulation in it would work if wrapped around wiring and cables.  It would still need to be away from direct heat, though.

Yes, I have that, but it will not ever look stock.  I guess that wasn't a listed criteria.

Hey, prices aren't bad for three-foot lengths.

My car is nothing near that nice.  Still, it looks mostly stock.
