Does anyone have a good picture of the rear splash shields installed? Trying to put new ones on the car but it has been so long since I messed with them that I cant quite get them right
Thanks, Scott
-
Are you using the TFS shields?
-
Yep, only ones I could find.... not labled left or right , driver or passenger, and I dont think all of the mounting holes were punched
-
'86?
-
Or 85GT
-
Just verifying it isn't for an '88. You about need to get the car on a lift to get good pics. Do you still have Fierofool's '86?
-
Good call....... never thought about looking at Charlies car
-
Your parts car may still have the shields on it, too. As for left or right, if it's similar material to OEM, the pebbly side goes outward to the car.
-
Parts car is naked
-
Welp..... Charlies 86 aint got no splash shields, so that aint gonna werk as a example..... but I did find a picture of the passenger side in the Haynes Manual so that got me started. So this evening I finished the rear passenger side brakes and installed the drivers splash shield. Then I ran out of gumption. Will finish the brakes and splash shields later
-
So, wheel well liners, but no splash shields?
-
Well, if you ever get pics of the splash shields, for sure post them.
-
Yep.......
I have been trying for almost 20 years to get some one to show me how to pictures up........ every time I ask and they start explaining they immediately go over my head....... so, I can send pictures but aint got a clue on how to put them on the board
-
I'll post them. No problem. Just send them to the club email.
-
After RFTH, if you'll let me, I'll come over and set it up for you. You do have a Windows OS PC or laptop?
-
Yes sir, winders X even
-
Have the new splash shields installed. A bit disappointed in the quality, not all of the required holes were punched or marked so I had to mark and punch them myself. Otherwise that should help to get rid of the belt squeal when it rains
-
Where did you source them?
-
Fiero Store
-
Hmmm. Mine came from TFS, also, but are for an '88. I don't recall installing them being an issue. My originals were rather hard, torn, and cracked. The new ones feel sloppy, but should last longer.
The radiator cover and muffler mud flaps are made of the same material, which is different from stock.
-
Put a pair on my 87. I did not have to make any holes. Just had to keep looking around to find where the the connectors were. Just look for any hole that could be punched out and see if there is a connector hole or connector that was left by the old shield. If I rememeber right the shield is snug over the axle.

Rodney used to sell very good splash shields. I got some for my yellow car a while back.
-
I have Rodney's muffler shield. It is made of the same material as the TFS splash shields. It seems that TFS buys some things from Rodney, and Rodney buys some things from TFS.
I have radiator shields (upper) from 3 separate vendors. The pieces are not identical. They seem to be cut slightly differently, but seem to be made from the same matetial, also. The texture is different from stock. The stock matetial is slightly thicker (by feel), but thiis other rubber is soft, flexible, and slick. Not necessarily greasy, but it should be easier to clean.
-
I don't think rodney and tfs are on that good standing. He has complained in the past about tfs buying his parts to have them copied.
-
They aren't. Look at the comments on his site about the muffler flap.
Still, they have his vacuum lines, although there is a place that will make better lines on the spot.

Hopefully, the pics above will help anyone else who has this question.
-
What did you not like about the quality?
-
All of the holes werent punched..... so far they have kept the factory installed belt squeal to a minimum
-
Do the shields mask the belt squeal, or how to they impact the belts?
-
they "shield" the water from "splashing" on to the belt while driving in the rain
-
Ah. No tensioner pulley for you?
-
I have one of those too, the tensioner does not help when the belt gets wet
