Title: OPS TSB

The oil pressure sender TSB locates the oil lines down near between the cat and the manifold.  Apparently, although GM recommended this, apparently some people do not like this, to the point that my vehicle was deemed unsafe.

Thoughts?

Any danger from the manifold?  I've never had me OPS spray oil.

On the V6, I think non-AC cars had the sending unit down near the filter.  AC equipped cars had the tubing that runs up near the EGR solenoid/waterpump area.  I think that tubing is routed up behind the AC compressor brackets and isn't near the manifold or converter.  I have had the old style sender begin to leak oil at the top.  The little plug that's intended to relieve pressures inside the case as the pressure diaphragm moves up and down will let oil come out if the diaphragm ruptures.

On mine, it was just weeping.  There was a cover of sorts that snaps over the top of the sender, but it's open to a large degree.  I suppose that a major diaphragm failure could spray oil.

Ugh!  GM discontinued the tube, and issued the TSB to relocate the OPS.  After the original fire issue, you'd figure that they'd have avoided anything that could potentially cause fires.

Not sure where they deemed the fire hazard would be but in my opinion, there's less chance of it with the sender located high above the water pump.

So, the fire hazard would come into play when the TSB was implemented.

On non-AC Fieros, the OPS is located there.  What is the difference, if it is put back there for AC-equipped Fieros?

On AC equipped V6 Fieros, the compressor and brackets and oil filter create a space problem.  f85gtron worked it out by using a brass street elbow fitting.

I don't know when the TSB was issued, but I believe the cars were still being equipped with the tube all the way through the 88 model year.

They were still used in '88.  The TSB came later.  I'll look for the date.

I should've taken a picture.  It wasn't a recall, just a Technical Service Bulletin.  That's why the tube was discontinued.  Apparently, there was a twisting issue.  Maybe people only used a single wrench.
