At the February meeting, we decided to make Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge (http://www.pontiacsinpigeonforge.com/) an official club event. This year, it will be held at the MainStay Suites Conference Center. Fierofool asked me to check for other hotels in the area to see of we can find a better rate. However, I don't yet know what the rate at MainStay Suites will be for the event dates (June 4-7). In fact, I don't yet know if they have rooms. I tried to reserve one online, on the venue's website, and it said there were no rooms available for those dates. That could be because they've been blocked off for the Pontiac show, so I will call tomorrow and find out. In any case, I need to know the rate. The website indicates that rates vary depending on the date. Currently they are only $75 a night, or $71 if you are a Choice Hotels club member. I doubt they will be as cheap in June.
If you are thinking of going, download a flyer here (http://www.pontiacsinpigeonforge.com/images/Flyer.pdf).

2020 looks to be off to a good start.

Try the Grand Smokies Resort Hotel. That used to be the Great American where most of us stayed. They always had much lower rates. I always blocked 15 rooms and had a cutoff date of around the Labor Day weekend. That's the one that has the big buffet restaurant in the parking lot.

I looked at the two locations and they are a good distance apart, but going out the side street it would be easier to get there without all the heavy traffic on the Parkway. Looking at a satellite image, I don't see where the host hotel would hold the event.

It would appear from the pictures on the Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge website that the show is set up on the lawn north of the venue (assuming that up is north in this picture).

This car is obviously near the white building north of the parking lot

I'm guessing that once your car is set up, you can't move it until after the show, so any alternate hotel would have to be in walking distance, unless you brought another vehicle, or planned to use Uber.
-
It turns out that the event hotel is actually sold out for the event. And the alternate they give doesn't look close enough to walk. So I am emailing Mike Blackburn for details.
-
Usually, there is a shuttle.
Edit: I meant that's how some places do this. No idea about this event.
-
This event does not appear to be on the calendar. It may be a good idea to link to the cslendar.
-
BTW, I never got a reply from Mike Blackburn.
-
Check with that hotel I mentioned where we used to stay.
-
Hotel rooms are suddenly very cheap.
-
I'm wondering if this is still a possibility.
-
I just emailed Mike. Maybe we'll find out.
-
Thanks.

As of April 3, Sherri Blackburn says the show is still on. If they have to reschedule, it will be August 13-16 and rates are cheaper at that time. The other available date is in October but room rates are $199.
They will be making the final decision in May.

As of May 1st, this event was moved to October.

Oddly, Pigeon Forge is having a huge car show, this weekend. The show extends for maybe 20 blocks.
-
During normal times, there are so many car shows going on at the same time that they practically run solid from the north end to the south end.

Figures.
