I was watching Mike Rowe's Dirty Jobs TV show tonight and he was in Gray, Ga. cleaning the equipment of Old Clinton BBQ Restaurant. Old Clinton was named Best BBQ in Georgia.
Gray is located between Milledgeville and Macon. It would make a nice Saturday or Sunday cruise. Maybe down Hwy 11 from Bethlehem, or maybe Lawrenceville or Loganville.
From Bethlehem, or Lawrenceville, it's about a 2 hour drive. Bethlehem is just 1 highway all the way, but from Lawrenceville, there are at least 4.
Maybe do it the third weekend of August?
-
Sounds great, we love to go to different BBQ joints in new towns. Count us in.
-
Been there. They're good.
Count me in. Probably meet up with y'all when you cross I-20.
-
Maybe if yellow 86SE and AeroDonamic are on the road by then, we can loan out our extra Fieros to those who don't have one and really make a showing.
I looked at the place on google street view and there's a really long area right along the front of the lot where we could park the cars.
It looks like Saturday would be a better day. Sunday hours appear to be from 10 to 4.
-
I also have more Fieros than I can drive at any one time. BBQ sounds good.

I've been trying to decide upon a good location where everyone can meet. For those who even mignt be thinking of going,
would Pleasant Hill Road near Gwinnett Mall be a suitable place to meet? From there, we could easily access GA. 316 to Bethlehem to pick up on Ga. 11 all the way to Gray.
(See new suggested meeting place below. 709 Christmas Ave. (Ga. Hwy 11) Bethlehem, Ga.)
Ga. Hwy 11 would have the fewest traffic lights that could break up the caravan. I realize that it's a good distance for some to get there, but I think it's the most direct route without a lot of different turns onto different roads. Some might want to meet us at I-20 East and Hwy 11. Return to the Atlanta area can be done via I-75.
-
That location works for me.
-
I've been rethinking about where the group could gather to start our caravan to Old Clinton's BBQ.
Since we have the possibility of people coming from a widespread area, there's no need for anyone to have to backtrack after we meet up. We will all be traveling down Georgia Hwy 11 through Bethlehem, Ga.
When traveling East on Ga. Hwy 316 and turning left (South) onto Ga. Hwy 11, there is a large church on the right. Bethlehem UMC. 709 Christmas Ave. (Hwy 11) Bethlehem, Ga. There is a large driveway where we can meet. I think this would be better than having persons drive from the east side of the state, then have to back track. It wouldn't be out of the way for out Atlanta west and north members and is much easier to find than the area at Pleasant Hill Road.
How about 10 AM?
What Say Ye?
-
I just spoke with the people at the restaurant, and they aren't allowing inside dining, but the tables out front under the porch shelter are available.

Do we have proposed a date yet?
-
August 15. The Saturday after the club meeting. You won't be back in time.
-
For sure. That requires a DeLorean. :)

Are you going to bring your camera?
-
I didn't know I was going. Somebody put the BBQ place further from me than the Duluth Diner.
It would be torture, anyways. I cannot eat solid food for 2 weeks.
Pictures are a great idea, though.
-
Well I'll have to go next time. Have fun.
-
Paul, there's a station on the south side of I-20 where HWY 11 crosses. Wild guess ETA is about 11AM.
I am going to have to ask that someone be prepared to lead this excursion. I am totally unable to walk at this time. Crutches and my brother's help is the only way got out of bed and to the living room today. If anyone is willing to take over I will provide all and any information you will need.
Mike, if you don't have AeroDon ready, I'm on your way to Bethlehem. Come by and get my 87.
Not saying for definite that I won't go, but at the moment it sure doesn't feel like it's a possibility.
-
You should probably recover, anyway, to avoid another setback.

Near Social Circle. Got it.
-
Sounds like a fun trip I’m in! I’ll check with Jr to check his work schedule.
-
I've sent an email to everyone I thought may go. if you didn't get it, let me know.
-
Fiero BBQ Folk,
My daughter is heading off to college Saturday morning. She is planning on leaving early -- which means I might be able to join up with y'all where HWY 11 crosses I-20 near Social Circle. If I can great. If not, kids come first.
-
Paul, if you're not going to make it, call me and I'll contact someone in the group so they aren't sitting and waiting for you. I believe you have my phone number. If not, send me a PM or email.

Not attending?
-
I spent yesterday afternoon and evening in the ER. No, I can't ride.
-
Sorry to read that. I thought I left specific instructions to get well.
-
Wellll, I know you spent the night at your home and not in a Hoiday Inn, so I decided to seek other advise. ;D
Anyway, I am on NSAIDS and muscle relaxers that is allowing me to be more ambulatory.
-
Well, darn. Yeah, I usually avoid Holiday Inns.
It's probably too early to get about, without making things worse.
You have no idea jow much I want BBQ, right now. Just about any pork, chicken, or beef, actually. But, being in the middle of 2 migrations, I couldn't go, even just to be there.
-
As sit waiting for a tow, I believe I will pass on tomorrow.....
Yall have fun

Scott breaking down is a sign from God and I won't trust my car to get me over and back safely. I'm in the process of deciding whether to sell my 2 cars complete or part them put. Fieoro's just don't like me apparently. Everyone be safe....
-
So, it's Jason, Pat, Gabe, and Roger and maybe Paul?

You have read my Saga thread, right? Your Fieros are just 30-year-old vehicles. An MR2 from the same era, with the same history, would be...worse, most likely. Once a few things are worked out, Fieros are great.
-
The offer for my 87 if AeroDon wasn't suitable is still open.
-
Take pictures, please.
-
Heading out.
-
I sound up leading 4 cars (counting mine) to the wrong Old Clinton's. The next time someone asks me to lead, I'll just say "no thanks". I'm very sorry for the mistake.
-
Only one Fiero arrived at the BBQ run destination.
I have to list this as an epic GFC fail.

I'm sorry you apparently wound up by yourself. I take it that no one met up with you at the meeting point to drive down?
I totally feel your frustration. I was scheduled to meet up with a Fiero group, and rather than wait for them to drive all the way into town, I drove hours out to meet them, at the only other waypoint on their route of which I was aware. They did eventually arrive, about 4 hours late, only to decide to leave. I was about 9 hours in, between driving and waiting, and they couldn't bother to spend some time with me. So, I got to drive all the way home by myself. A 14-hour day, for nothing. I have had this experience with several Fiero groups, which has resulted in my wife's attitude. In a way, I guess it makes me feel better, that it doesn't just happen to me.
For future reference, maybe calls to each of the expected participants could help sort things out, at least to ensure everyone wound up together. Also, was the destination address posted? Ideally, each participant should be using their own directions. Some years ago, my siblings and I were supposed to be following our parents to a particular place. My parents drove right by the location, We tried calling their phones, flashing our lights, and making hand signals. Eventually, I all but forced them off on an exit. Although we had passed the location 20 miles or so previously, their directions showed the location further on. My siblings and I turned around, and my parents followed us. I dunno where that GPS of my parents' was leading them.
-
For both groups, was the BBQ excellent?
-
I may be the only one that got Old Clinton's BBQ. Gabe brought me a sandwich and some brunswick stew.
I'll take the blame for the mixup. I only posted the address of the meeting place in Bethlehem and directions to follow Hwy. 11 all the way to Gray. I didn't post the address of the location in Gray, Ga. I did, however, send out an email to everyone who might go, with full addresses and route. So, if no one read my email, it's my shortcoming for not putting it in the thread.
-
I remember watching Driving Miss Daisy. The chauffeur was driving slong, and took a turn. Miles later, they realized that they made a wrong turn. Miss Daisy blamed the chauffeur, but he had a point. She made the turn with him, and she had the map.
Did Gabe not eat anything at the restaurant?
-
He said it was drive-thru only, no place to eat outside like the original has, and it was raining. They went to Chili's.
-
Ugh. Chili's.
Well, I hope pgackerman had a good, sit-down meal.
-
I've been to both Old Clinton BBQs before. IMHO, not the best in Georgia. My wife and I went across the street to Jalapenos Cantina. Great Spicy Burrito. I know a runny nose isn't a great thing to have in these COVID times, but it was well worth it. Even the Salsa was first rate.
I'm disappointed we didn't get together. However, Toni and I had a nice drive, saw some more Georgia back roads, had a great meal -- we've been wanting Mexican, broke in the Fiero's new tires, and didn't sit at home worrying while my daughter drove to college.
All in all, a good day.
-
Several things:
1. Glad you weren't alone, and still had a good day.
2. Where is the best BBQ in Georgia?
-
Mot's BBQ in Martinez. Banana Pudding counts as a side.
Shane's in Evans, but that's mostly a quantity thing. I have trouble finishing an entire sandwich.
Patriot's BBQ, but they're in SC, less than a mile over the line if you can fly. About ten miles over if you drive. They have peach wood BBQ on pretzel buns.
-
I didn't find Mot's BBQ in Martinez, but found something similar in Augusta.
-
The lines blur. Mot's BBQ isn't even in the same county as Augusta; but who has heard of Martinez?
-
So, Mot's BBQ is that place?
Yeah, people give me a blank look on my actual city, so I tell them the closest metro area. Unfortunately, this is technically an untruth, so makes me unfomcortable, so I always try to specify that I'm in that metro area, which is true.

Mike, seriously, are you OK?
