Title: Normal temp gauge?

Is this normal operating temp?  Higher?  Lower?

Mine has a Rodney thermostat and runs cooler than that at speed (at the first long mark) but hotter than that (around 220) sitting still in a traffic jam or if i'm playing speed racer in a lower gear.  Never hotter and not sure if the fan is ever coming on or not.

Mine has a 195 degree thermostat in it.  The fan does come on, but I was running the AC.

You can see the speed.

It looks perfectly fine to me. Your engine was designed to run best at around 200 degrees. If an engine runs cold all the time, carbon will build up in the cylinders.
My 3800 runs cooler that that, and it worries me a little. But on the other hand, it's a non-Fiero engine and sensor connected to a Fiero gauge, so it may not be accurate.

Yes, that's normal spot for a 195 tstat.

As long as air circulates in the engine bay, that is where the engine runs, mostly.  If I stop for a while, it heats up after a bit.  So, I could stop at a light, and think everything us OK, but then as I pull away, it heats up.  If I run at highway speeds for a few miles, it cools back off.  It does not go below that.  The CTS shows that temp, even when the gauge reads hot.
