Greetings GA'ers! I have a day off...good times. And after 20 years of searching for a lower air dam for 87/88 coupe nose I have one...really good times!
I was offered this part over 2 years ago...and it was supposed to be sent but noubt showed. The guy forgot about it and only just came across the part last week..and very kindly sent it.
It is covered in red paint/glue/filler/fibreglass goop and prolly a few other substances.
Now to find summat that will be kind to the plastic but zap all those nasties.
Hope you are all fit and well. Xx

Why fiberglass on it? Was there damage?
-
Welcome back, Pete. I thought you had a GT or have you a second Fiero?
-
I think he tried to make a mould from it. The main thing is I have one now. I am certain it can be rejuvenated.
A friend says that a product called biostrip will do the job without damaging the plastic. I managed to get a large amount of the paint off today with gentle scraping but plenty of stubborn bits remain.
FF, my car is an 86 SE but with an 87,88 coupe style nose.
-
Aero SE?
-
Does anyone know if the dam fitment is with metal strip below the air dam plastic ... sandwiching in the air dam? That seems the most sensible rather than it just bolting to the metal strip.
I tried searching for an exploded diagram that shows it but failed.
Edit: biostrip worked wonders. Removed a layer of red paint...a layer of yellow paint, filler and other goo.

???

After cleaning all the goo off, I tried tyre paint as it will move with the plastic. It came out really nicely.
-
Give us some pictures as you progress.

Sadly can't post pics here FF. Only have tellingbone access

Send them to the club email. Someone will post them.

I wonder if plastidip would work. People paint tires?
-
It's too make the wall of the tyres look beautiful. I am imagining for car shows. No idea how or why I had it but it was unopened and available and in theory must be flexible if intended for tyres. It initially looked awful; glossy and streaky but dried to a very matt finish and removed the signs of battle with the goo.
I do also have plastidip somewhere which may also work...or peel off.

We have something over here called Flexible Bumper Paint. It's an aerosol can. I use it on the headlight motor housings when I rebuild a motor. It's a permanent paint and designed, of course, to be flexible.
-
Owww it seems we do too! https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/specialist-and-decorative-paints/halfords-plastic-bumper-paint-black-300ml-325175.html
It looks good as it is though so just need to fit it....have 6 months or so to find the time for that....

Fitted today, happy with result. Worth the wait. :0)
Is a bit like knowing someone for 20years and then them growing a beard!
