Mt 4T60 transmission shifts very well, except if I'm on it hard during the 1-2 shift. It will not shift, unless I let off the throttle a bit. The shift cable adjustment has been exhausted, with no change. Any ideas?
-
How high did you let it rev while on it hard? It's normal for it to rev higher if you're on it hard.
-
Redline. 5,500.
-
Actually, not redline. Rev limiter.
-
Can recall if those have a governor or not but if so it can be stuck. Could have a valve sticking in the valve body. Sure you adjusted the cable the correct way?
-
3 people tried, including Ryan Gick.
-
Have you tried yelling at it?
Try some Dr. Tranny (finish laughing) Lube Guard.

90% sure it has a governor. Should be in the tail housing. Pull it and check/clean it good. That flammable brake cleaner works great.
-
Well, there is no no shudder, but no, I have not.

Tail housing? In English?

Not the shudder fix. ... see photo

Over by the VSS?
Does the governor only affect first?
-
Yes by the VSS. It can affect all gears but problems at high RPM shifts can be it. Just think you don’t offer redline 2-3 or 3-4. Did you check the vacuum accumulator?
Watch this video. It’s painfully slow but will help.

Trying to find the governor (or at least the part #)
-
Did you watch the video above? 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻
-
Yes. Maybe I missed the part about the governor.
-
They don’t cover it well but basically you pull it out kind of like a distributor and clean it with break cleaner. They sometimes go bad. They normally have a little filter too.
-
I want to replace it, and the filter.
-
I have how covered. I do not know which part to order. The filter seems to be the only thing that comes up.
-
You will probably need to contact a local transmission parts supplier. I know they are available but apparently not online. You will need to remove it so you can get your gear colors and tooth count.
-
Anyone know where to find the correct transmission seal for a 4T60?
-
Have you tried TransStar?
-
I don't know which is the correct seal.
-
You have the stock engine and transmission right? You should be able to just call TransStar like Charlie said. We’re the two you got not correct?
You might buy a complete seal kit. It will have every variation of seal.
-
The axle seals fit fine. Apparently, this is the pan seal. I think that's what they said. The GTRS has a 4-speed auto.

Thanks. Ordered.
-
Unless they were talking about the side pan....
-
Joy. Dunno. On the left side.
-
Can be. Depends on if you are upside down or not. 😂
-
We're cleaning off the transmission to be sure which seal.
-
🤷🏻♂️
-
Here, long on ice, short on cream.
-
If I do need the side gasket, which should I get?

You will need both. One looks like a ring. The other is the shape of the side pan.
-
Both?
-
Yep
-
Since they're threatening snow, I went to see my Fiero. My Fiero may be out for a while, because the trucks were spaying liquid salt all over the roads. Looking at the gasket on the bottom pan, there appears to be a 1.5" section of gasket missing. We ran the engine for 35 minutes on the lift, and no leaks showed. The transmission is clean. Rrrgh! Maybe pressure is not developing, while in park.
-
Bottom pan would be gravity leak. Once the fluid gets hot enough it’s as thin as water.
-
The problem actually ended to being damage to the pan. Some impact work resolved that. The new gasket seems to be holding.

Or not. The left axle seal failed, and apparently was slightly off in shape. The inner side should be curved, rather than flat.
