I need to replace a caliper on my 2003 Mach 1. So I had the parts delivered but forgot to get some extra copper washers "just in case." I am not the mechanic most of you guys are so I always get extras if, when, I screw up. Went to AZ and told the sales represented what I needed. Got the deer in the headlights look. He said he didn't have any copper washers. I asked him if he was sure and he said no copper. He took me to the rack of washers - flat, split, locking - but no copper. I told him it was a common part and he must have some. Went to the computer, entered my Mustang's info and no copper washers. He showed me the screen of a box of assorted washers and said no copper. I politely pointed out where on the screen it said "copper." Oh. Of course he couldn't find them in the back. He gave the store manager the Dorman part number and we found them on another rack. I bought the last pack. I thanked them both and proceeded to Advance Auto to get an extra pack.
Same deer but now I had a Dorman number and found the washers myself. Got the last pack.
You gotta know what you need. Hope everyone is well.

That not only applies to Mustangs. Common problems with getting Fiero parts are related to the clutch systems. Gen 1 or 2 master cylinders, 5-speed slave cylinders, clutch kits. The 86 year is the worse year to get the wrong parts as it had all transmissions and engines available for the Fiero. Muncie, Isuzu, Getrag, and TH125c.

Go in and ask them to look up a radiator for a 67 Corvair. Watch them vapor-lock.

Personally, l like when you go in for a clutch kit they have to go through make model year BS......... then ask if it's automatic or manual????????

Scott, that is the worst. Had problems with that for many vehicles using other vehicle parts. ha My solution is to go to whatever store asks me the least amount of questions and just do what I ask. ;) Even better, let me control the computer so I can look up my own parts!

Automatic transmissions have clutch disks. :)
