This is information for the main event in September, not for the scouting run in April
The 2023 Run For The Hills event will be based at the Hampton Inn, Cornelia, Ga. The address is 161 Market Corners, Cornelia, Ga. 30531
We have a block of 15 rooms. There are 13 King Rooms, two of which have pullout sofas. The other two rooms are handicap equipped Double Queen Rooms. When making your reservations, take the King Rooms first in the event we have an attendee that needs the handicap equipped rooms.
Check in time is 3 PM, September 22. Checkout time is 11 AM September 24. The room rate is $149 per night, plus $5 state transportation tax plus 15% hotel tax. All rooms are non-smoking. There is a $250 fine for anyone found to have smoked inside a room.
THE DEADLINE TO RESERVE YOUR ROOM IS AUGUST 23, 2023 SO DON'T DALLY
Please plan to arrive on Friday. We have arranged for a private tour of an automobile museum. Their normal admission fee is $10 but because this will be only for RFTH 28 attendees, it will be after hours. The entry fee will be $15. This is also an antique mall. The tour will take place Friday night, September 22 at 6 PM. Miles Through Time is the museum, located in Clarkesville, Ga.
We will lunch at The Grand Olde Station Restaurant on Saturday and when we return to the hotel, we will have our evening dinner at Longhorn's Steak House. This was chosen in part because restaurants are very limited in this area, and also for anyone who wishes to have an adult beverage. Very close to the hotel.
Event Tshirts are still in the works. As soon as we have a final design, it will be posted in this thread. They may be ordered on the Georgia Fiero website at gafiero.org in the Club Merchandise section. Be sure to chose your size, quantity, and color shirt, offered in white or light gray 100% cotton.
To reserve your room, you can call the hotel directly at 706-778-0040. DO NOT USE THE RESERVATIONS NUMBER OPTION. IT GOES OFFSHORE. JUST STAY ON THE LINE FOR THE FRONT DESK AND MAKE YOUR RESERVATION THROUGH THEM. Use Reservation Code GFC or Georgia Fiero Club. This is to assure that only our attendees take advantage of a very good discount rate. If all rooms are taken at the Hampton Inn, there is a Bonvoy by Wyndham just in front of our hotel. No special rates have been arranged with them.
The T-shirt design artwork can be seen below:

RFTH T-shirts are available from the Club Merchandise page.

The RFTH 28 theme is Lakes, Streams, and Waterfalls. Just a little preview of what's along our way.

I have my room.

Looking forward to the event again this year. Currently working on my brakes, as I found out only one caliper was actually working properly. I won't be done with the engine swap, but the 2.8 still runs, albeit with an erratic/high idle.
-
These should all be new roads for you. I don't believe in the years you've attended that we've used these roads. I've used some of them before but this year I've added two new roads.
-
Was able ro reserve the room online with the GFC code to get the discount price.
Looking forward to the run!
-
Because I don't have a Fiero capable of doing the run, I have decided not to go this year. Besides, I have macular degeneration, so it's probably not a good idea for me to go anyway.
-
If you think theres a chance you might go you can cancel up to a day or two before without penalty. I think I have the 86 all fixed so it may be available.
-
A Pennocks member said that all our block of rooms are booked, but they still honored the discounted rate and he got a room. If they are booked, this is going to be a good group because I know some of our locals are driving in on Saturday morning and leaving Saturday after the run.
-
Just made my reservations, as above. (Yeah... I'm slow.)
They honored the $149 rate.

On Thursday I spoke with the curator of the automobile museum to firm up our private tour. He told me they had added another 13,000 square feet of display area and have more than 100 cars on display. Since our initial contact with the museum, with the added display, they have increased the admission fee by $5.00, so our cost will be $20.00 per person. This will also give us access to the antiques store if anyone desires to browse and purchase.
Our private tour will begin at 6PM, Friday September 22 so we will need to depart the hotel around 5PM.

Run For The Hills Activities
If you are attending RFTH and want to join in our tour of the Miles Through Time Automobile Museum on Friday evening, please be sure to arrive at the hotel by departure time of 5 PM. We will drive to the museum to begin our tour at about 6 PM.
Route sheets and your registration sheets will be distributed as you arrive. We must have your registration sheets filled out and returned by 8 AM Saturday morning
If you plan to arrive on Saturday morning, you must be at the hotel by 8 AM. The drivers meeting will begin around that time and your emergency contact and dining choice information will be collected at that time.
We will depart the hotel at approximately 9 AM for a fun-filled day of great scenery, great food, the best people, and maybe some spirited driving if you so choose.
Whether you arrive Friday or Saturday morning, be sure your car is fully serviced with all fluids. Check your brakes and other mechanicals and safety equipment. Please don't wait until we are ready to leave to fill up. We can't wait for you.
We use FRS walkie-talkie radios for car-to-car communication for fun chatter, car breakdowns, obstacles, dogs, bears, and bicycles in the roadway, and emergencies involving our group.

This weekend is the first day of fall. The weather is forecast to be superb. Atlanta area temperatures are forecast to be a high of 80 and a low of 60 for Saturday. Sunny and mild all weekend. Being that our venue is a bit north of Atlanta and mountainous, expect and prepare for a little cooler temperatures in that area.
Be sure to bring your FRS radios for communication on the road and a folding chair for sitting around and chatting outside the hotel in the evening.
We have no official count of participants, but based upon reports from some, all our block of 15 rooms have been booked and additional rooms were booked. By that unofficial count, we are expecting about 20 cars to be present.
Should you discover you need or forgot something, there is a Walmart Super Center, Advance, O'Reilly, and Auto Zone store within a mile of our hotel.

I'll be getting some pictures up later this evening. Windstream/Kinetic is supposed to be coming this afternoon to convert my wig-wag, smoke signal internet over to fiber optic. Wish I could upload some video here, too.

The museum curator and two of the staff gave us a private guided tour of Miles Through Time Automobile Museum. Each man is a specialist in different era vehicles, giving history, owner, and specific details of the vehicles in their care.

In the next few posts are just a few of the vehicles in the museum. Too many to post individually. Just a few that caught my eye.

As we pulled into this scenic overlook with a view of Lake Jocassee there were a group of sightseers that suddenly thought our cars were more interesting and turned around and began videoing and photographing them. I didn't catch the conversation, but it appeared some of the ladies knew something about the cars, and were even photographing some of the engines.

-
About mid-day, we stopped in Lake Toxaway for a great lunch at The Grand Olde Station Restaurant. Brittany was a great hostess and I heard no one complain about the quality or quantity of food.

-
Your first photo of Lake Jocassee could be a new Club cover photo.
