Title: Best dash cam?

So I'm in the market for dash cams. Anyone have recomendations for the best ones? First hand experience? Ones to avoid?

Are you looking for one to just video your adventures or one for those potential dumb drivers?

I want one to record possible dumb drivers and/or police encounters. :)
Getting tag numbers is important, although I know they don't do that very well...
