Soooo, I think the fuel pump id failing in my Indy... Will the '88 v6 fuel pump work in it?
-
The88 V6 or any Fiero V6 pump won't work in it, but unless the harnesses are different, they should work. Ashby replaced the one in my 88 coupe with a used one, but I don't know what year it came from.
According to The Fiero Store, the same pump fits all year 4-cylinders. Rock Auto agrees, listing the same numbers for both 84 and 88.

OK so the '88 V6 pump has different wiring connectors. I'm not going to try it 'cause I don't want to pull the tank again if it doesn't work.
I bought a Carter from Rock Auto & it is garbage. First, the wiring is different: instead of the original wiring bolting on, it comes with a *press on* connection & a separate pigtail - which you have to solder in. Then the pigtail has TEENY-TINY wires that couldn't possibly carry the current to run a pump!
So now I'm waiting until I get the money to buy a pump locally, while I jump through the hoops to return the Carter crap. (I have to find a way to print the return label). Sigh...

The V6 fuel pump supplies to much pressure. The Duke pump is a lower pressure pump. You might check with AutoZone. Look at the Delphi pump that comes with the harness, and the rubber O-rings for reinstalling the sending unit. You'll have to buy a sock filter separately, but that's common with most fuel pumps.
Can you email me a picture of the harness on your pump? Or look at the harness on this one from Auto Zone.

Here is a pic of the wires. Notice that the Delphi pump you linked to also has the press-on electrical connection at the pump. Does look like bigger wires, though. I did buy a sock, as mine was... rough.

I've used several Delphi pumps, but only for a V6. All were plug and play without splicing. The pumps were good, except for the last one I got for the 86.
