I have made arrangements with the Helendorf Inn in Helen, Ga. to be the host hotel for the 20th Anniversary of Run For The Hills. The Helendorf was the host for the first event.
As part of the 20th Anniversary, we will be traveling to The Tail of The Dragon. The event will take place during the beginning of the OktoberFest celebration in Helen, so there will be lots of festivities to partake in.
Below is some paraphrased information provided by the Helendorf Inn.
*They have a variety of rooms blocked for our group for September 18 & 19, 2015.
*These are based on a 2 night minimum stay.
*Each guest may call to make their own reservation as part of our block.
*A deposit in the amount of 1 night is required to guarantee each reservation.
*After July 30, 2015, they will release any of the room block that have not been individually reserved.
*Cancellations must be received at least 10 days prior to arrival for the deposit to be refundable.
Standard Rooms = $114.00 + tax per night (Most of this room type has No Elevator Access/ Stairs are Required)
If you need a Handicap Equipped Room, please advise and ask for the special rate.
Riverfront Balcony = $139.00 + tax per night
Riverfront Patio = $149.00 + tax per night
*Rates quoted are for 2 adults traveling without any children or pets.
*Pet Friendly rooms are very limited. The Pet fee is $20.00 per pet per night.
*Tax is 15%
Again, be sure to ask for the Georgia Fiero rates. If you have any problems, ask for General Manager Catherine Gay Cleiman.
For reservations please call 706-878-2271 or 800-445-2271

I Made Pats Reservation Today.
-
I've sent out invitations to the NIFE club, NTFC club, VAFA and NEFA. That's Northern Illinois, North Texas, Virginia and New England. Response from our Florida brethren is looking good, too.
-
What about the East Tennessee Fiero club?
-
I thought it was a given that the East Tennessee Fiero Club would be there. No invitation needed.
-
Ok.
-
Was it agreed that the first trial run would be April 18?

Florida is rolling in. Just a matter of figuring out which Fiero
-
For the April 18 Trial Run to set up the route sheet, we'll have to determine where we will all meet up and at what time. We can discuss that at the March meeting.
Frank, how many have you all mustered up so far to make the September event?
-
Some of our members have asked that I set up a Scenic Tour for those that don't want to go to The Dragon. SO, this year there will be an alternate route. Because we're in the mountains, there's no way to avoid some good twisties, but I will try to set up something so that the sightseers can have their vistas and return to the host hotel at about the same time everyone else does.
-
I have an Alternate Sightseer's Route laid out with gas stops and lunch stop.
Now, who's going to lead it? When we do the scouting run, I'll take you on the alternate route to familiarize you with it,. The regular group can take the main route.
-
For those who might want to take the Sightseer's Tour, what would you be interested in seeing? Would you prefer to just take a leisurely drive through the mountainous countryside or do you want tourist sites?
If you wish to remain anonymous with your comments, use the SURVEY username and password as in the A SURVEY thread. That can be used anywhere on the forum.

A bump and a reminder that you must have your reservations prior to July 30 in order to get the special rates. There are only a limited number of rooms blocked for us but if we get them filled prior to July 30, I can get more blocked for us.
-
Olejoedad from Capital City Fieros tells me they may be bringing as many as 10 Fieros down for the event. I think we should offer a nice Club Participation Trophy to the club that has the most cars. Can
Can the Georgia Fiero Club beat 10 cars this year?
-
I checked with the hotel this morning and 10 of the 15 rooms I blocked have been reserved. If Capital City Fieros makes their reservations, those rooms will be taken. The hotel says they will only block more rooms for me, once the current ones are filled, but I must request them. As we get later into the year it will become more difficult to block more than a few rooms at a time.
Get your reservations made. This looks to be a very good participation year.
-
For the April 18 Trial Run, let's all congregate at the Chevron Station at the end of Georgia Hwy 400. They have a larger parking lot than the Shell, and it would be pretty easy to get back onto the highway as a group. I think this would be a more central location for all of us to meet rather than Gainesville, especially for those in the western suburbs.
Let's all be there by 9AM, get gassed up and ready to go. If you don't make the April 11 meeting, post here to let us know you're going.
-
Our center of operation will be the Helendorf Inn. There are a number of other hotels close by that may or may not be cheaper, but you may miss out on some club activities taking place at The Helendorf.
Some of those hotels are: Super 8, Econolodge, Country Inn and Suites, Days Inn, Bavarian Brook Rentals, Rodeway Inn, Alpine Valley Inn, Jameson Inn, and Best Western.
We would love for you to stay at The Helendorf but if the cost would prevent you from attending, we would rather you stay at another hotel close by.
-
If anyone having reservations gets or got a notice that your reservation had been cancelled, it was due to a changeover of computer systems. I've spoken with Helendorf and they will be sending out new reservation conservations to all of our group. If you got a cancellation and do not receive a new confirmation within a couple of days, please call them.

You've seen it here first. The 20th Anniversary Run For The Hills Tshirt. See our Club Merchandise section to place your order.
-
I need to know how many are going to make the scouting run so I can get enough route sheets printed.
Right now, only Pat and Greg have committed. Anyone else?
-
Unfortunately my Grandfather passed away early this morning so I will not be able not to make it.
Scott
-
Condolences to his family and friends. Be careful on your way up there. It looks like you will be driving through a lot of rain, maybe both ways.
-
Unfortunately my Grandfather passed away early this morning so I will not be able not to make it.
Scott

You Are In Our Prayers.

Anyone interested in rescheduling the Trial Run for May 16?
-
I am.
-
I will be leaving the Chevron station at the end of Georgia 400 at Hwy 60 in Dahlonega, by 9am on Saturday the 16th. If anyone wants to help with the scouting run, be there and have your tank filled, ready to leave by 9AM. Bring your FRS radio if you have one.
If that's out of your way, meet me at The Helendorf Inn in Helen, Ga. and be ready to leave by 10AM. The scouting run is on, rain or shine. Cancelled if we're having floods.
-
Is Anybody Else Going On The Trial Run ?
-
Greg was planning to go last month, but I don't know if he's aware of Saturday's reschedule. My phone wiped out all my contacts and I'm not sure the email I have for him is correct. He hasn't replied to any inquiries.
Scott said he may go if he finishes a remodeling job he's working on.
-
Sorry to say that i not be able to make it tomorrow. Yall have fun
-
I am definitely going, some how, some way.the gt is going to need an engine, new brake set up and new clutch, lets keep our fingers crossed, wish me luck

If you don't get the Fiero ready, then bring something else. We've had all manner of vehicles running with us
Welcome to Georgia Fieros.

Yesterday Fierofool and I ran one of the proposed routs. Since it was just us, I rode as a passenger, and sometimes navigator, in his car. I got to experience first hand how he runs the Dragon. It was fun!
-
...I rode as a passenger, and sometimes navigator, in his car. I got to experience first hand how he runs the Dragon. It was fun!
Yeah. Charlie don't play.
-
For the most part, we took it easy. As we left Robbinsville headed up to The Dragon, we picked up a Corvette and behind it was a 350Z Nissan. As we passed the Dragon's Head, then we all took off. First thing we encounter as we entered The Dragon was a State Trooper parked back in the edge of the woods. But he didn't wake up.
We had a lot of fun toying with the Corvette and 350Z. Or maybe they were toying with us? Anyhow, we three had it all to ourselves until we encountered a traffic jam. Dead stopped. Unfortunately, it was due to an accident. We turned around and asked some BMW'ers if there was an accident and they nodded yes, with a very solemn face. Tons of BMW ricers with big tilted wheels in the rear, all the way from Helen to the Dragon and back. I think the accident may have been one of theirs.
It was a nice day for the drive and good to have someone ride along. The only downside of the trip was that I never got Pat to scream or tell me to slow down.
-
With just over a month left to make reservations, we were down to two rooms left out of what we had blocked. I just added 5 more, so as of a few minutes ago at 11:15am there are 7 rooms still available.
-
I just checked and we still have 7 rooms that haven't been taken. July 30 is the deadline.
-
I doubt that I'll spend the night, but I plan on being in attendance again this year. Fierofool. thanks for all you do to make this event so successful.
-
HNThomps reported that when he tried to make reservations, he was told that they had released our block of rooms on July 1. If you encounter the same response when making reservations, advise them of the following information.
Below is some paraphrased information provided by the Helendorf Inn. See the 5th line, then ask for Catherine.
*They have a variety of rooms blocked for our group for September 18 & 19, 2015.

For reservations please call 706-878-2271 or 800-445-2271
-
The general manager apologized for the mistake of releasing our block of rooms. They will honor the rates until August 14, as long as rooms are available. You must ask for the Georgia Fieros rates. Anyone who has made reservations so far and didn't get the group rate, please contact them and have them correct the charges.
-
For those who don't get a room at the Helendorf, or want to pay less for a room, there at least 5 other hotels directly in front of The Helendorf. Rather than list them all here, go to Google Maps, enter Helendorf Inn, Helen, Ga.
Then scan to the East. That's to the right. Drag the map to your left and the hotels will show up. Click on your choice and the information will come up to contact them.
-
Cant I just stay at my house? Im only 30 minutes away from Helen.
-
Can I stay at your house, too?
-
sure...... bring an air mattress or a sleeping bag, there's only 1 bed ......and i aint sharing it with you
-
Just made my reservation. (Never one to rush into anything...)
Still got the group rate.

We will be holding our Saturday evening dinner across the street from the Helendorf Inn, in the confines of Paul's Steakhouse overlooking the Chattahoochee River. Current plans are that we will be inside the lounge. City regulations do not allow anyone under 21 to enter the lounge or any area where alcohol is served, even just to eat. There is a regular dining room and a deck overlooking the river, but the lounge is the only area that is large enough to accommodate the expected 30-40 attendees.
We will be requesting that you register your intent to eat on our registration form. In order to group us together as closely as possible, I must call them while we're out on our run.
Paul's Dinner Menu.

There are no prices for food on the menu, for drinks yes, but not food. Do they have food prices posted on the door as per Germany ?
-
The little numbers in parentheses after the item name, I believe is the price of the item.
-
I hope to make it, I have been in several corvette runs but there is something special about Fieros
In fact if anyone has a nice 88 GT I would consider trading my 98 Vette,
she looks good from 20 feet and has a sound that turns heads and the power to pass most anything on the highway.
I will gladly take anyone on a test ride if they wear a helmet and prove she can hit 160 easily and 170 if I try
record speed on it is 190.
It had been banned from Bristol Street fights unless install a roil cage
-
OK, I'll bite. What does a '98 Vette look like that you'd be willing to trade for a nice '88 GT?
-
Tshirts must be ordered by tonight, Sept. 4, midnight.
Remember that our Run For The Hills is at the beginning of the Second Week of the OktoberFest Celebration. Hotel rooms can be scarce and costly during OktoberFest. As alternate hotels within view of the Helendorf Inn are:
The Alpine Village Inn (706) 878-2296
Super 8 (706) 878-2191
Country Inn and Suites (706) 878-9000
Days Inn (706) 878-4079
Best Western (706) 878-2111
Jamestown Inn (706) 878-1451
and
EconoLodge 706) 878-8000
If you think you may attend, reserve a room. If plans change, you can usually cancel within 48-72 hours of your reservation.

Anybody still need a roomie? I just got issued a reprieve from the warden!
-
Yes. I had invited one of the new members we met at Stone Mtn., but he's reporting that his work schedule won't allow him to attend. I have a room with two double beds. See you next Friday.
-
Alright, sounds good! Let me know what i owe.
-
I think with about $20 taxes and fees, it's around $135 a night.
-
Anyone who's going, let's help Pat get some of the raffle items up to the event. If Pat can bring some of them to the meeting tomorrow, we can load them into our cars and share the load.
Hopefully, my wife will recover enough to stay out of the hospital. If not, I'll still make the trip up there to bring tshirts and whatever raffle items I have.

Weekend forecast for RFTH:
Atlanta, 85 High, 65 Low. Partly Cloudy.
Tail of The Dragon, 81 High, 58 Low. Mostly Sunny.
-
whats the difference between mostly sunny & partly cloudy?
-
I don't know. I'm not a precipatologist.
-
As you prepare for RFTH, think about how you're going to post pictures and videos.
Without documentation this is just an event a bunch of Fiero owners went to and (maybe) talked about.
With documentation you have a way of letting folks know how much fun Fieros can be.
I know I have more fun going 0-speed limit in my Fiero than any Corvette, Camaro, or Mustang owner has.
-
For many years I filmed the runs and we sold videos of them. Interest waned and they just became my collection of archives. There are always lots of pictures taken but many keep them, or at least the majority of them, to themselves. Most of the club officials have their hands full keeping things organized and moving and don't have a lot of time for picture-taking.
I think some of the out-of-state people probably put pictures up on their own club websites and a few of those get shared on Pennocks, but it's just not like it used to be. Facebook and other social stuff is taking away from traditional websites. Then there's the migration over to using cell phones as a sole means of internet connections and many cell phones can't post pictures to a website. My phone won't even let me attach a picture that I've taken with the phone and it's difficult to share it in any manner except social media.
Hopefully, this year we'll have enough of our club members there that we can get a decent number of pictures. Pat is usually pretty good at bringing back a bunch.
-
Just before RFTH make a "RFTH 2015 pictures" topic.
Ask participants to post links to their photos there.
They can use flick, FB, google images/groups, etc. Just make the photos Public.
-
Good idea, Paul. Thanks.
Now, everyone reading this, take your pictures and share them here. Be sure to make any links public if you aren't using our image poster. You can even post here using Pennocks PIP, which is similar to our own image poster.
-
I just checked on rooms because now my wife and kids want to check it out.
They only have a king standard non smoking left and some smoking rooms at the fiero club rate.
-
There may be some rooms available at the other hotels I listed if you can't get a suitable one at the Helendorf.
-
She's checking now.
-
How will everyone fit in your Fiero?
Rocking chairs on the rear deck again?
-
Well, we are heading towards the mountains......
-
My brother's on his way to join me on RFTH, in the newly painted red SE he bought from me....
Looks like he had to stop for a catfish lunch.
-
There are a number of things that will need to be handled by members once we start arriving.
There are raffle ticket sales. It might be best if handled by only two people. Maybe we can display the items on the trunks of our cars in the parking lot. Volunteers?
Registration forms need to be distributed and collected. We need these collected prior to departing Saturday morning. Once collected, dining information needs to be calculated so the lunch and dinner restaurants may be notified. They need to know how many to expect to make our dining experience timely and enjoyable. Volunteers?
I can handle the Tshirt delivery and distribution of route sheets and registration forms. I'll also help to collect registration forms and extract dining information from them and help with any other chores.
Members, please wear your blue club polo shirts or baseball caps so that our participants will know who to address if they have any questions or concerns.
-
Hey Charlie (or anybody else), is there a time and place for the pre-run drivers' meeting? I'm not sure if I'll be attending this year, but if I do, I'll drive up Saturday morning. If you don't see me, I hope all of you have a great time!
-
Saturday morning Drivers meeting on Edelweisse Strasse which is behind the post office. It will be across the street from the Cool River Rafting, in the big parking lot. Be there by 8AM. I have briefings for the group as a whole and for the groups taking the different tours. We will depart by 9AM.
-
Thanks for the reply! I have a scheduling conflict on Saturday and I'm not sure which way it will go. I wish I could be 2 places at the same time.
-
As much as I hate to miss this year's RFTH, it looks like I won't be joining you this year. Have a great run!
-
I split off the pictures into a second topic. If you have more, put then in "20TH ANNIVERSARY RUN FOR THE HILLS PICTURES".
