Title: buncha fieros fo' sale!
Post by: f85gtron on January 19, 2015, 09:01:42 pm
There's a lady close to Augusta, whose husband has died, but not after amassing a collection of Fieros, mostly 84s, in varying states of repair and disrepair. If any of you are interested, I will go find specifics on each car. No parting out, just hauling away a complete car.
She's threatened to send them to the crusher if she can't find homes for them.

She may not have papers on them, so for a couple of hundred, get a car, strip what you want and it could be sold for scrap and recover cost.  Below 86, I believe doesn't require a title, so you could scrap them with a bill of sale.

.....or in Georgia, title them too with just a bill of sale.  Who wants a couple?

Can anyone tell by the photos which are '84s, which have V6s, etc?

They're all 84's or 85's except the one with the camper top.  It could be an 85GT or 86 or 87 SE.  If it's an 85, it will be a V6.  The 86 or 87 could be either L4 or V6.  Any of the 85's that are SE's could also be V6 or L4.

The one with the 13 inch turbine wheels is definitely an 84 and it's likely the one with steel wheels is an 84.  If the Interior vinyl pieces are in good condition and not warped or cracked, they can all be cleaned and dyed to go into any year.  Marker lights and tail lights and Generation 1 motors are good parts to have on hand.  If the 85GT is a 4-speed, that would be a good grab, and even any of the 4-cylinders that have manual transmissions.  Isuzu's are suitable behind a V6.

Radiators, if they still have coolant in them, original Harrison heater cores, cooling fans, Isolator relays for the headlights.  All of those things are good shelf items.

Why is the discussion moving towards parting these out?  These need a wrench thrown at them and put back on the road. Imho

I was talking about those that couldn't be put back on the road.  Since she wouldn't part them out on her property but wished to sell each one as a whole unit, someone might be able to pull some decent parts from the ones that were unsalvagable or where the restoration cost would be prohibitive.  The 85 appears to have been wrecked in the front and all the front compartment stuff is missing.  Getting them for parts would be much better than sending them to the crusher like she says she will do if they don't sell.

We're always about saving a Fiero if it's within reason.

I was thinking it would be beneficial to choose one and then a companion to pull parts from.

F85gtron and I went to get a closer look at the Fieros for sale.  He's the creepy looking guy in the hoodie and I'm the spooky reflection.
buncha photos here: https://plus.google.com/photos/101244603559962497427/albums/6109583601292207585 (https://plus.google.com/photos/101244603559962497427/albums/6109583601292207585)

You will never meet a nicer person to purchase a car from than the lady who owns these vehicles.  However, IMHO, none of these Fieros will live again.  There's one V6 in the bunch that looks good.  It's the one with the camper lid.  The rest are 4s.  None of the fours were fully assembled. Most are '84s.   Generally, the parts were in the trunk.  Only one still had a steering column attached.  But there are a buncha good parts.

Almost all the cars have AC.
All the glass is in good condition.
Some good vents and decks.
Cruise, knobs, etc.

Maybe the Atlanta group can come over and we can have a stripping party and then send the cars off to a better place than they are now.  I suggest having this party before the weather turns hot and trees cover the cars.

Now that I know where they are, it seems to ring a bell.  Years ago, I got information about a man in that area that had a buncha Fieros.  I emailed with him, but he wouldn't sell a part nor just 1 car.  It was a package deal.  All or nothing.  These may have been the cars, though I see a lot of parts have been removed.

That is a good job of documenting.  Very thorough.

Thanks.

These might be good rollers if your interested in making a Fiero Ferrari.  That's beyond my expertise and way outside my desire.

I am planning on going Agusta .Darrell said he would go if  something else dident come up.  I looked at the cars, the one that stood out is the one with the after market sunroof. No motor to fool with, most likely has a M19 HI performance 4.10 Muncie Trans. Glass quarter windows. good looking body panels. if windshield is cracked car is pretty much toast as this 200.00 repair is a killer on this old of a car. I checked current metal prices they are currently at SCRAP=8.25 per one hundred CARS 9.25 per 100lbs. THIS is Ga. of course SC may be higher or lower.

Ron and Paul, do you think she would sell parts before scrapping them?  She could get more for the parts than they would bring for their weight.  For instance a pair of tail lights could bring her from $35-50 dollars but for weight would only bring a couple of dollars at the most.  Glass quarter windows the same, but by weight only maybe $1.00.

If she's determined to scrap them, maybe make that offer to her and let us pick them apart.
Title: Re: buncha fieros fo' sale!

In the beginning, she specifically said she didn't want to part them out, but i think she was thinking it would be a long, drawn out process.  Paul had suggested holding a strip session, where a gang of us show up and rip these boogers apart. Then, she calls the scrap guy to haul away the carnage.
What do you think of that?
Ron
P.s.  in the meantime, if there's something specific you want me to check out, just let me know.

When Don and I were talking, that was the idea that he had.  She might have to keep them on her property a little more than two weeks so that we could get a group together on a good weather weekend and to fit it in to other club activities.

Don said he needs a good set of unbroken notchback tail lights and he was interested in the saddle tan door panels.  I could use a good shift surround for a manual and maybe some other interior trim pieces.

Most of the taillights are in good shape, just hazed over. There's a lot of the solid 84' vent covers there too.  Those seem to be hard to come by.

Paul had suggested earlier that we hold a stripping event before they go for scrap. I talked with the owner yesterday and i am happy to report she is all in!  Tentative date is Saturday, 7 March. I believe this will be a one day event, just let us know on this thread if you're in.

If anyone would like to ride with me and share fuel cost, I will take the truck.  I can carry 5 people if I take out the child seat.  That way we can bring back some of the larger pieces that some might want.  I looked at some of the console skeleton areas that were exposed and I saw some that appeared to have no cracks in the screw holes.  It would be difficult to bring those back in a Fiero, especially if you had a passenger.

I plan to grab one or more of the steering wheels, the shift surround from one of the manual transmission cars and maybe some other stuff.  Marker lights, Isolation Relay, EGR solenoid are all good items to have on hand.

I forgot to get one of those big, circular, covers used to hold down the carpeting in the trunk.
Knew I should have made a shopping list.

While you're there can you also grab the black, blue and white harness ends and the two wire constant power harness with as much wire as possible on each?  These are the wires that plug into the back of the stock radios.

That silver car that gave me all of the cuts and bruises. 2nd from the left. 2 of the connectors that Charlie wants are in there. I want the connectors with a little bit of the wire from both seats (where the seat speakers hook up). A pair of wire cutters will be all you need.

I got the harness. I need both seats. There is one connector on each seat.
It is on the lower inside corner of each seat.

Since those seat covers are going to the scrap yard. I would suggest splitting the backs and cutting the wires up close to the tops of the seat near the speakers.  If Roger's installing speaker seats into his Formula like I did with my 87, he will need extra wiring to splice into his existing wires to give him enough slack to work with the wires.

Same with the radio plugs.  Working back inside that little radio hole is difficult and with the way my wires were cut out, I may have to remove the dash and skeleton to be able to solder and heat shrink the connections.  Every bit of extra wire is appreciated.
