If anyone has a problem with charcoal, we can make the burgers on the stove.
We don't have a gas grill.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as we can tell the difference between the charcoal and the burgers.  LOL

The only problem I have with charcoal is that it takes me forever to get it started. :p

There was just too much there to catalog even without the onset of rain.  Thanks for taking pics, Steve.  It will at least give a general idea of what's available.

Glad Bob and Harold came out to help.  Always good to meet new Fiero people.  Pat and Linda, thanks for handling procurement and preparation of the food.  Not much left over speaks volumes for the chefs.  There probably would have been none if everyone hadn't gotten filled.

Because we were all squatting, kneeling or sitting in the grass at one time or other, check yourself for tiny, tiny seed ticks.  I've already found 2 3 on me.  Didn't know it until I had a persistent itch.

You're very welcome. I may go back and edit the post with descriptions.
There are lots of things that the camera didn't pick up. There was a good sized box full of dash switches. Trunk poppers, headlights, etc., as well as at least a dozen relays. AC/Fuel pump relays, and 84-86 headlight relays. Couldn't really identify all of them. There were at least two plastic battery "shields". I meant to grab one for Scott B, and forgot.

Post by: Raydar on May 01, 2016, 06:16:23 pm
The gas tank was code dated for a 1988. It also appeared to be the later style.
The instrument pods were all 4 cylinder units, with the exception of the middle one. It's for an 85 GT. (Has the V6 graphics, but the oil pressure gauge in the tach.)

The ECMs were mostly 7170s. Standard issue for the 86-88 V6.
I'll have to look up the associated broadcast codes to figure out which trans they are set up for. (I'll find and post those codes, later.)
At least two of the ECMs were 6869s. Those are from the 85 V6 cars. They were fairly sought after, because the hardware supports the addition of a knock sensor.
If the appropriate PROM chip is left in place, the 85, and the  86-88 ECMs are interchangeable.

1 85 V6 4-speed
1 86 V6 4-speed

1 87 V6 auto
1 88 V6 trans unknown, marked Formula
4 with part number 1227170 (same part number as the 86-88 V6 models)
1 marked "no good"
1 with no markings.

Pat,
The PROM broadcast code is frequently printed on the labels on the outside of the ECM.
They are usually described by a 3 or 4 character alpha code.

Here is a table that contains all of the Fiero broadcast codes.
http://www.exatorq.com/ludis_obd1/fieroprom.html

This may clear up any "mystery" ECMs you have.

I think I'll need the front bumperpad fascia and grill if it's not spoken for yet. I have an unpainted gt front fascia to trade for it that can go into the kitty.

The 84 Fascia is still there, I believe.  Most of the parts are there.  Only a few have taken advantage of the membership.  There's so much there that it's impossible to do a reasonable inventory and to keep up with what has been taken or sold.

Tshark, the parts are stored in TopNotch's utility building.

Are any of the intake hoses in good condition?  Mine is lacklustre.  I tried to clean it up, but the shine faded after a week or so.

Post by: Fierofool on February 05, 2017, 06:04:43 pm
Weathertech has some products for spraying on their automotive floor mats.  I used to work for a chemical company and we made a janitorial product for rubber mat dressing.  It worked very well on tires because it was water based and wouldn't harm tires.  Most of the tire dressings and cleaners of today have acids that destroy the rubber in a short period of time.  I used Westley's Bleech-White, Castrol Super Clean and Purple Power on my tires and engine to degrease and shine.  I had to replace tires that had weather cracked before the tread wore out, and my engine hoses were rotting.  I discovered this when I was recharging my K&N filter and my hands turned black from handling the intake hose.  Then I foiund other small rubberf hoses had rotted.

I soon found out that it was the acids in them.  Hydroflouric Acid.   ArmorAll has a lot of alcohol, as well as many other brands of products that make car things shine.  DuraGloss makes a lot of eco-friendly products.  Zep or Selig Chemical companies may have a janitorial product, or Puritan.  These companies are major school suppliers so they have to be much safer than automotive products.  Less volatile chemicals in them.
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: GTRS Fiero on February 05, 2017, 06:43:12 pm
So, which to use?  Puritan?  Purple Power?

I tried rubber rejuvenator, because my hose was bad.  Yes, it left lots of black on my hands beforehand.  The rejuvenator made the rubber soft again.  No more black.  It stinks.  Instructions say to soak for 48 hours.
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: Fierofool on February 05, 2017, 07:56:35 pm
Don't use Purple Power on automotive rubber.  Try a search for a Weathertech product first.
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: Fierofool on February 10, 2017, 03:40:56 pm
I forgot about a cleaner I've been using for about 6 months.  I picked it up because it didn't have any of the common tire cleaner acids, like hydriofluoric acid or any phosphorous.  It's probably the only ArmorAll product I will ever recommend.

It's ArmorAll Extreme Wheel and Tire Cleaner.  It goes on as a foam and does a very decent job of cleaning my tires and engine parts.  I've not noticed any indication of it drying out my tires or any of the hoses in the engine bay.

It's hard to find, but I used to get a product at AutoZone to spray in the engine bay after it was cleaned.  You can spray it on everything.  It leaves a good seal on all rubber products.  It's called CD-2 Engine Detailer.  You may only be able to find it on Amazon or Ebay.

Does anyone know if the parts barn (or a member) has...

My Testarossa replica has fixed headlights... "fixed" as in "non-moving", not fixed as in "functional" or "improved". Each side has two rectangular sealed beams, glued into position... Barn door effect blocks a lot of the light, plus they are not aimed correctly and there is no adjustment...aside from cutting the silicone, moving them, and gluing them again. :) lol

Anyway, I found two headlight mechanism / hinges assemblies. If I can find the other parts, I plan to remove the current headlights.

Charlie / Fierofool looked at the car and said the module was missing, and that I might want to try finding a new front harness.

He suggested I ask on here.

The 86 V6 at PAP would be an SE, so it will have the aero nose, too.  Anyone going, Drewbdo might be able to use the dash pod.  If he doesn't take it, I will.  I don't know if I can get there this week.  Things are kind of busy for us.

I believe there was the bumperpad (84 style), the areo style (GT), and the formula style. Areo nose was on the 84 indy, 85-88 GTs, and 86 SE.... was there an 87 SE?
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: Fierofool on June 12, 2017, 08:46:41 pm
Yes.  The 87SE was identical to the 86SE.
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: f85gtron on June 12, 2017, 09:33:04 pm
Scott, i have an aero nose if you need one. Not sure if it's the pre lights in funny places, or post lights in funny places. I noticed that a bra from an 86 aero won't fit perfectly on an 85 aero. Weird, huh?  My brilliant deduction sais they're different somehow.
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: Fierofool on June 12, 2017, 10:20:22 pm
Strange.  I used one from my first 85GT on my 87Gt when I bought it.  It was a LeBra that I got from TFS.
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: f85gtron on June 13, 2017, 12:29:21 am
Are the lights in different spots because of the ribbed vs smooth belt trim?  That's the only difference, right?
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: scottb on June 13, 2017, 06:43:51 am
Thanks Ron....... I was under the impression that all of the areo noses were the same, only difference being the little molding piece forward of the marker light. That piece is easily changed when the nose is off of the car.
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: Raydar on June 13, 2017, 07:25:36 am
The aero noses...
The ones with smooth trim, the trim between the wheel well and the marker light is part of the light.
The ones with grooved trim, the trim between the wheel well and the marker light is molded into the bumper.
The only smooth trim aero noses were on Fastback GT cars.
If it was an aero nose from a notchback car, it got the grooved trim. (84 Indy. 85 GT. 86-87 SE.)

Hmmm. It's a primed body part from who knows where. I guess I'll take pics of that area to make sure Scott can use it. Scott, told you you're gonna need to bring a trailer!
Btw, it's part of the parts barn cache. I traded the barn it for an 84 bu'tugly nose to keep it "real", homey.

I do not know what is left in the parts barn, but maybe there should be a discussion about handling what is in there.  Sooner or later, those parts will have to be carted away.  If the planning/removal starts in a timely fashion, the parts may be able to be sold, as opposed to disposed of.

Friends in Belgie Donster so I am right up for that!!!!

All we need now is the barn and the parts!

I am already $200+ in a hole to get 1 harmonic balancer and still not there yet!!!!  $40+ hole for one rancid cork gasket of dubious design and still not there yet .... That's already the fuel and crossing costs to our Belgie barn!! :0)

It seems that the cost to send things from here to there is much greater than the cost to send things from there to here.  You talk about all those duties and things.  I have never had to deal with that.  It seems that these things basically preclude people there from buying from the US.

The Barn is at Pat's house.  He is VP and MikeMac is President.

Power door lock switches can be had from Rock Auto.  Listed under Electrical-Switch and Relay.  ACI or Standard Brands.  I've never seen a gas pedal cover listed anywhere unless it was a clamp on custom metal type.

I just reread your posting.
Unlike the clutch and brake pedals, the gas pedal does not use a rubber cover. Or a cover of any kind. It's just a molded plastic pedal that is held to the throttle lever by a pin and spring. I'd bet that many GM gas pedals are similar.

Having paints or any other items in pressurized containers shipped to Germany is always an issue with customs.
Just like "Medication", that really isn't medication.
I had a vendor from Colorado throw in a bottle of "Assorted Flavor TUMS" into the box and German customs confiscated them, because they fall under medicine and destroyed them. I had to pay duty on them anyways.  :(

If it is a hassle or destroys the trim pieces when removing the speaker grills, I'll settle for just the gas pedal  ;D
Shipping the entire trim pieces will require a large box and freight costs would be rather high and not worth the trouble.

Thanks.

Don, I don't know the condition of the ones in the car that Scott stripped.  Even though the interior had been exposed to the elements, it was at the front of the cockpit.  The rear portion of the roof wasn't damaged and the grills may be serviceable, though they are gray.

We have a TON of the gray trip pieces with speaker grills. Since the brown ones are rare, it might be best to leave them intact. That's my feeling anyhow. Anybody want to chime in on this?
Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: Fierofool on February 27, 2019, 04:19:03 pm
They probably can be bonded back on in some way, but I've read on PFF that it's difficult and removal usually damages them.

Agree.  Basically, you would have to cut up a set to remove the speaker grills, then shave them to fit what he has.  Best to either send the entire piece, if using the brown set.

Title: Re: THE PARTS BARN
Post by: Raydar on February 27, 2019, 06:27:30 pm
I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that the grills can be removed without too much damage, if you're not in too much of a hurry. (They would probably have to be epoxied back on to Don's car.)
If that's an option, I would just choose the most beat up (or most common) set of gray pillar trim (provided the grills are okay) and then remove said grills.
Maybe the fabric could be purchased and included in the same package, for shipping to Europe. Would save Donster the cost of shipping a separate package.  (Neither the grills or the cloth should be very large - or heavy - with both packed into a shipping envelope or box.)

Inventory hasn't been updated since those pictures were taken.  Some things are no longer there and other things have been added.  There is lots of stuff that isn't shown.

The parts barn parts are for sale to all Fiero owners at an affordable price.  If you're a paid member, you have free access to it after 6 months, as long as you're a dues paying member.  So, technically, free access expires with your yearly membership unless you renew.

Got it, that is perfect! Could be very helpful  :)

Charlie or Pat,
Do you know if there is a front hood prop in the parts barn? I have need of one for the Aerodon car.

I know there is one in the white formula that we are stippling at Pat’s house.

What are the chances of finding a power mirror switch and a passenger side power mirror in the parts barn? I don't really know who to ask or what the inventory is.

It may be slim.  Fiero Store has the switch.  They may have a mirror in the used parts listing.

I'm looking for a couple things at the moment:

1. Passenger side fender with no major cracks in it.
2. fastback rear body panel (the one that has the quarter windows attached to it)

Also, I have a bunch of spare parts in my garage i would be happy to donate to the barn. Is that a things we can do?

The barn doesn't have either of those things. And if you want to bring things over, please make sure they are good items people are likely to use. Please don't use the barn as a dump.

I might have the fender. Will be a bit before I can confirm though.

Look on Page 2 of this thread where the photo inventory was done.  There are 2 left and 2 right front fenders.  All for the aero body style.

Are you converting to fastback or just need to replace a damaged one? I have most of the parts to convert, but I really don't want to sell just the roof.

The rear clip isn't the part that has the sunroof.

I wired up the parts barn, and put up a bright light (Harbor Freight LED shop light). Now it will be easier to find parts, and easier for me to fond things that need to be recycled and/or thrown out. I also put in an outlet, in case anyone needs to plug in something out there.
