For #3, there are 2 items I'd like to see written, not necessarily for the newsletter.  One is one of these (http://www.gafiero.org/presidents.htm), only with a vision for 2018.  Perhaps another could be written in December as a review.  This would give the club a sense of direction.

The other item would probably need to be posted on the site, but would be a particular technical article I have in mind.  I've been working on this item a bit for the April newsletter.  This item is supposedly out there, but I've been unable to find a satisfactory version.

Another possible item: club picnic.

I can see helping each other out with a day or two allowed for each car Not likely everyone could do two day's in a row But so much more could be accomplished, And not on a Meeting Day . Starting After lunch Gets into Siesta Time so I need to start early , Yes Kinda Like a Job .  I will offer this help if I could get Help on my car also as 2 days of 3 or 4 Folks Could get mine ready For Paint  Or Big Brakes or or  I'll Help anyway But jus' sayin'

Also at last years BOPC event there Was 1 Fiero . I make a lot of shows because I get to Drive Awesome cars but None are Fiero's. But while there I can Promote the Club If a fiero was there to Promote. And May'retta is real close, Sadly the church Parking lot Doesnt allow for easy in and out for Spectators, if any one here was thinking about it, Next to the Varsity or the movie theater on Barrett Pky. is Ideal. 3rd saturday's are cruse in- in Canton Riverstone Plaza, Po' Boy's Car Club and Larry's in the Morning for Coffee and Donuts

The last special cruise I set up just for Don was to Tybee Island.  Only he and I and my brother attended.  But if someone will give me some ideas, I would be willing to set something up.  Would be good to have MikeMac lead the way in Aerodonamic.

May I suggest a cruise to  Providence Canyon formerly State Park, GA near Columbus?

About 4 hours from Augusta.  We could meet up near Madison or maybe Douglasville.

Probably an over-nighter.  Next day tour the Museum of the Confederate Navy, or whatever they're calling it now.

Oooo!  I like that idea!  Along the way, the middle ga autocross folks hold solo competitions regularly around Macon and Warner robins area. Could we tie in that somehow and get more than a couple fieros there to give the miata clubs a run for their money?
Here's the link. There's one next weekend and then in March...

Not sure I've ever given an SCCA Miata a run for their money...

...But I still had a lot of fun - even with my 180.

I think a stock Fiero would still be hard pressed to give a stock Miata a run for the money.  I've heard it said that Miatas basically come track ready from the showroom floor.  Steve can probably confirm or dispell that.

Over at GRM the Miata is Called 'The Answer'  And there are a hundred 'Flavors" From Stock to HI Horse Monsters. The things do handle well from the Get Go But they are 20 years of Knowledge Newer, Still don't want one ! My Fiero will Answer a Few of them.

A Miata is probably the best "driver's car" I've ever driven - and I've never even driven a modded one.
Several magazines have placed the Miata at #1 or #2, over the years, in "Best Driver's Car" competitions. It's always in the top three. Up there with the Porsches and newer Corvettes.
Any Fiero (other than a full-on race car) would have to be tweaked to a fare-thee-well to even be close to a Miata. Just the truth of the matter.
But I don't care. I still find my Fiero more fun to drive.  :D We sold the '97 Miata.
Title: Re: February Club Meeting
Post by: pgackerman on February 06, 2018, 08:14:03 pm

I fit in a Fiero.  Never sat comfortably in a Miata.

Went to an SCCA event where about 30% of the cars were Mazdas, and of those 80% were Miatas.  Best driver I saw that day took his Miata through the course in a controlled skid.  Amazing.

I hope to see at least 3 and maybe 5 Fiero's this year at the Challenge, I have a Personal Challenge from Michael Crawford from North Carolina (dusterbd13)  They brought the AMC Hornet This Past year,  but his Miata will have a Later model V6 GM engine and He is doing a Build with Photos on GRM,
It's a Family Build with his Father Involved, They aren't Beginners and I will need my "A" Game. And Man Do they have a Nice Shop to work In. You Know Lights and Heat and Lift's and Concrete Floors Stuff I dream Of.

I'm sorry I didnt get to the meeting.  My intentions were good but the execution failed.  Was driving the Fiero to the meeting and it died on 285 just past Ashford Dunwoody.  Had it towed to Mikes. Will have to wait to find out what happened.

Strep can be a bad thing if untreated.  It paralyzed me for more than 6 months when I was just 6 years old.  Left a long lasting footprint, in the form of a heart murmur.  Take care of her.

Bob, I heard about your misadventure when I got home.  Mike told me that it just shut down on you.  What were the symptoms or any warnings leading up to the shutdown?  Did it begin running poorly, or just die?

I was kind of expecting everyone to show up, what with all the rain.  Couldn't cut grass, couldn't paint the house, couldn't clean the gutters, couldn't take the dogs for a long walk in the park, couldn't do a brake job or engine swap in the driveway, couldn't cook out on the back deck.   :P

Was just cruising past 400 and felt the car slow down.  No bangs or loud noises and it was losing power.  Dont think the red lights came on, just know I had lost power and better get to the side of the road.  Not good when you see a Semi bearing down on you. His tires are taller then the Fiero.  Luckly the apron just pass the Ashford Dunwoody exit is sort of wide and I was in the right lane.  Between the rain and the cars/semi's flying by it :'( was a little hairy.  Worst part was missed lunch and the Galaxy.

Title: Re: February Club Meeting
Post by: Fierofool on February 11, 2018, 02:20:51 pm
GrannyLinda was starting the application after the meeting, Saturday.  Apparently some things have changed.  She said that automotive groups are limited to just 3 vehicles, and each vehicle pays an entrance fee, which is higher per vehicle than we have been paying as a group.

She's going to call them on Monday and get things clarified.  If we can only have 3 cars, then Ga. Fieros can enter 3, CSRA can enter 3, West Podunk can enter 3.

However many we can enter, we're having problems finding 2 people to carry the club banner.  Ron said his family has something planned for that day.

So, no worries about how many Fieros enter?  I'm curious about the club banner with the different names.  I wonder why the change.  Hopefully this isn't a precursor to other changes.

1) Continue the discussion on making RFTH a Charity event.. please bring a suggestion on what charity you would like to contribute to, we can vote on the 10th or do a poll of the top three organizations here on the forum if we decide to make it a charity event.

Two charities were suggested 1st American Cancer Society 2nd St. Jude's Hospital based of the members in attendance it was decided that we would pursue the American Cancer Society

2) St. Patty's Day parade.. who and where do we want to meet up.

Unfortunately the GFC will not attend the parade this year, it has been suggested that we can either take a cruise or work on one of the club cars

3) Spring Break run.. do we want to pick a date?

It was decided that the Spring Break would be called "The Don Hulse Spring Cruise" the date TBD

New Topics

1) Donation to the Club for items that paid members get from the parts barn

we were unable to come up with a definite decision but it was agreed that the club would take donations from members (active 6 Mos.) and non members would purchase items from the barn

2) Possible Tech day / Club Meeting to work on one of the Club cars

March 12 meeting will begin at 7-8AM at Northlake Automotive, 3924 Lavista Rd, Tucker, GA 30084. Plans are to install the fuel tank from the parts barn it was decided that we are going to order a new sending unit to install with the tank, Lunch will follow at the regular time at the Galaxy Diner

3) Entries for the next Club newsletter.. looking for ideas, pictures or Fiero facts - fiction

No decisions were made

4) and any other topics the club cares to discuss

The trial run for RFTH will be in June
Club picnic in October location and date TBD b]

5) Upcoming car shows

General discussions around the upcoming events but no solid plans were put together
The BOPC show is May 11-12 at Piedmont Church, 570 Piedmont Road, Marietta, GA. 30066.

I like the Idea of starting early at the Shop then Lunch, But why leave  ?  send someone out to grab food and stay at the Shop.
Being that Mike allow's us the Shop His Cars (that Green Beauty) need to be at the Front of the repair list, And if we can get some guy's and Gal's in early working on a Couple could be accomplished.
  I Suggest,
Right now we know a fuel tank and we have someone that know's the job , that is two to three Man at a time at the most and if Mike has a List Made others can Tackle that at the Same Time.
No reason the Meeting can't be during a Lunch break. we spend more time at the resturant eating than Meeting

I agree. We should have every meeting a work day/meeting. We have a lot of non-running or badly running cars amongst the members to keep us busy for awhile. And I'm not counting the Aerodonamic car among those as it's under repair.

The only problem with this is that we're likely to lose those member who don't work on cars, including our secretary-treasurer, who isn't about to sit around in a shop for hours.

Y'all know my situation, but I'd tend to agree.  If I were local, where I'd be able to attend a meeting at the Diner, it would be difficult to participate in a tech session.  I think that the meeting is the club's base, for better or worse.  The tech sessions should be separate events, although the may be held on the same day.
