General Discussion / Re: On this Independence Day----------FREEDOM
« on: July 03, 2020, 09:28:57 pm »
I have to keep reminding myself that the 24/7 news cycle is to blame for the perception that our country is falling apart. If that’s not the case, and our freedoms are in fact eroding, I’m happy to stand and fight for the principles and freedoms that the founding fathers had the foresight to put down on paper. I’m not comfortable with erasing history. I’m not comfortable with allowing parts of our cities be turned into festering breeding grounds of anarchism thought.
I sincerely hope that I’m paranoid.  However paranoid, I know I’m not alone. I have a feeling we’re in the majority by far, just our voices aren’t dramatic enough for the 24/7 news cycle to pick up. Hang in there.

It’s changed hands again. It now resides in Powder Springs.

A shame it's gone, though.  I wonder if the new owner will do RFTH?

If the club would like to invite him to RFTH, I’d be happy to push the invitation along!  Might be great PR for the club!

Nothing in my stable at the moment. I felt so guilty walking by my Fiero sitting all alone in my garage. I took it out every now and then, but the clubs here aren’t my cup of tea and I had no one to help or get help. This guy seemed eager and interested for sure. I think he’ll carry the torch well. I could sense his genuine enthusiasm when meeting with him for the sale and that was it. It’s in good hands. Not to say I don’t miss it, but being able to see the documented care of it is very satisfying. I get to see the work being done to it and attention being paid to it without actually having to do anything is wonderful. Now I know how corvette owners feel $$$$. Lol!

Well, USED to be my Fiero, lol!  It’s going to be in a short series. Hopefully it will be a good ambassador to Fieros. Please look and you be the judge. I’m glad to see it live on in good hands.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Re: CB radios
« on: January 12, 2020, 05:18:22 pm »
Beware of the through the window mounts. They use resisters to match the signal, losing rx and tx strength.
The best mounting, would probably be the setup that uses the access through a grill. Use a piece of flat stock or something to mount a proper antenna too. Tune the antenna carefully, like a “monkey-made” or some kind of whip. Metal is more efficient than fiberglass, but if you want too, get a “firestick” because they tune up real nice and you won’t loose a bunch of rf. Wilson makes a nice top-loaded hybrid fiberglass that works great and is easily tunable.
Remember to tune with the doors closed and in an open area. You should be able to tune the full 1:1 swr if you have a good ground plane (achieved by mounting to the strut tower). You may get some reflection from the roof though.
CB radio, ch 19, is an awesome tool and can save you mucho cabbage. Ask for a bear report, ask what they left behind them. Go ahead, make a friend and enjoy the conversation.
Throw on a 10-11 meter box and skip to reach out and talk to someone.
Remember to spend time on tuning the antenna!  It will provide better reach than a strong radio. Wattage is great, but if it can’t get out...

Expert Tech Advice / Re: Safe driving
« on: November 28, 2019, 11:48:38 am »
It’s unfortunate that people are taught following distance in car lengths instead of time. Safe following distance allows space cushion and allows reaction time. Of, course, that’s if you’re actually paying attention to the road. 2 seconds MINIMUM from the vehicle you’re following will allow you to react, but 3-4 seconds will be much safer. I find I can get away with 3 sec following time before traffic around me starts to dive into my cushion. Measuring in seconds, instead of car lengths, allows the distance to grow as speed increases, maintaining reaction time.
Driving position is a serious deal for the reasons outlined in your account. If he had adopted a proper seating position and the pressures and weight of his body had been constrained not by his feet and ankles, but by the seatbelts and seat, then they’re may have been a totally different outcome and almost no injuries.
Thanks for posting this story when everyone is traveling. Hopefully it will help save someone injuries in case of an accident this holiday season!

I’m curious too. I vote for a “Where are they now” for the properties to see what condition or of the remodels held up.

Out of curiosity, was Heavy's BBQ good?

Just ok. It was better looking in the movie “Sweet Home Alabama”

Ends sort of abruptly
why does the batteries go flat ?

From degradation or lack of charge?

I like the exhaust notes in my Fiero, but not my wife’s Subaru. Ewe.

I’m glad to hear you and your Fiero got out unscathed. Could have been a sticky situation if too many egos got involved.

That was a very long presentation!  Your dad has a great deal of stamina!!!

I’ve been driving an ev for a while now as a daily driver, and I have to say, it’s difficult to ride in an “ice” car now because of all the motor/drivetrain noises and vibration. I didn’t buy my ev because I was afraid of loosing my grip on the tree.  No, I bought it because my wife told me to buy a “real” car and stop playing Fiero full-time. I actually wanted a pickup, but saw my car all alone in the corner of the car lot and I felt sorry for it, kind of like when you feel sorry for an ugly little dog. Anyways, I test drive it (after my 7yr old figured out and then taught both me and the salesman how to start it) and I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. I still can’t.  There’s only one other car that’s been able to do that and until recently, was my daily driver Fiero.
The instant torque and wild acceleration are awesome. Once you get over “range anxiety “, charging behaviors begin to become second nature. And the best part, when confronted by a bunch of Sandle-wearing tree-hugging Prius drivers, I shout that my ev is patriotic because it uses and supports only local energies and doesn’t support opec, they gasp, give me the stink-eye, and shuffle away. Problem solved.
Seriously though, I secretly hope it gets ran over and totaled during the night while parked by the street, so I can gut it and throw the drivetrain into the Fiero. Tee he he.
