The Market / 88 GT
« on: March 21, 2017, 01:32:03 pm »
Nope... It's not my 88 GT... Charlie keeps me calm when I get frustrated with all the stuff I have to fix on my 88  GT ...   :o ;)

Anyway, I found this one on Craigslist. Located in BooFurd.

500 miles on Advanced Auto rebuilt motor, 5 speed (which I really like!), extra parts, sunroof, fastback. Paint is TIRED!!!

He said he's $6500 into the car. Asking for offers, as he wants to sell for a different car.

The Market / Power mirror switch, Harmonic Balancer ?
« on: March 07, 2017, 12:20:12 pm »
Does anyone (or the parts barn) have the switch unit and plate for the power mirrors? I purchased power mirrors from PFF, and plan to put the mechanism into my mirror stalks (Testarossa replica). My car has a black plastic plate glued in between the power window switches, and manual mirrors.

Also, I believe my timing is off again, as when I drove it this weekend, the power had decreased, and it was hard to crank. At Christmas, my dad helped me get the timing set by feel & sound. He's an ASE Master with about 50 years of experience, so he's getting the hang of wrenchin' on cars.  ;)

Anyway, we tried using a timing light, but the timing was off according to the timing mark. That's why dad decided to set it by feel. He said, (and then I saw it posted elsewhere) that sometimes the harmonic balancer can be incorrect... apparently it "shifts" or something.

PFF suggested buying a new one from Rodney Dickman. Before doing that, does anyone have a good one, or should I just spend the money at Rodney's?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Raydar... (or anyone else) - Exhaust question
« on: November 01, 2016, 03:09:39 pm »
Raydar,

In this thread, you mentioned a Fiero with an Ocelot, cam swap, and no cats.

I remember Dave's car. I believe he described it as a 3.4 (home-made from a bored and stroked 2.8, IIRC.)
It's the first time I ever heard a cammed 3.4 through, an Ocelot exhaust. Lust at first sight. Uhhh... sound.

This one predates my conversion by probably 5 years.
It was at least a partial inspiration.
It was also when I discovered how good a fat cam, no cat, and an Ocelot exhaust sounded. Have you heard it run, yet?

My 1988 Fiero has an "Italian stallion" inspired body, but, in my opinion, a "Detriot uninspired" exhaust sound. V6, auto. PO stated it has a 3.1 liter engine.

In your opinion, would the conversions you were discussing sound "right" / correct-ish for a Ferrari-replica? Or would that be more the rumble of a '60's era muscle car? NOthing wrong with the rumble, just not quite the sound I'm looking for.

Secondly, my county does not require emissions testing. Would it be ok for a 1988 Fiero to remove the cats? Would there be any benefits? My dad (retired ASE Master mechanic) always said all that "emissions crap" made cars run worse, harder to work on, lowered performance, etc. However, would cat deletion cause computer codes, problems, etc? We live in a rural-ish area, and the houses are not super close (~1 acre lots), so a little extra noise would not bother the neighbors.
