The Market / Tail light screw covers
« on: March 28, 2021, 11:26:59 am »
Does anyone have a set of 6 black plastic screw covers in good condition that they'd like to sell.

I saw a set online, but $36 plus shipping seems unreasonable.

General Discussion / Rumor mill
« on: March 13, 2021, 07:46:53 am »
There is a rumor of a theft likely to occur soon.  Many people are expected to be robbed by this thief, probably within the next 24 hours.  It is suspected that the thief is based out of Washington D.C.  Allegations of theft have thus far failed to curtail the activities of this thief, partly due to a failure to catch said thief in the act.  This thief is wide-striking, in that the occasions of theft are expected to occur in many geographical areas covering much of the continental US.  Psychological impacts of this theft are immeasurable.  Support animals have proven to be ineffective.

Despite reports of theft of this type for many years, no suspects have been charged.  If fact, all suspects are known to be at large.  Descriptions are diverse, but they are believed to be dangerous, and allegedly use a weapon called legislation.  Officials have been either unable or unwilling to apprehend this thief, thus far.

Before you check, it is unlikely that any insurance will cover this theft.

Be advised that this thief is stealthy, allegedly being able to steal our most valuable commodity--time--from us--under our very noses.  Illogically, the best remedy against this thief is going to sleep early.

Now, this is just the rumor mill.  There is probably some basis in fact for this rumor, but I'm sure this started off small, and grew as it spread.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Fiero tracking?
« on: March 09, 2021, 07:42:04 pm »
I'm not sure of the ethics on this.

I can track my computers, basically anywhere.  Not all of them, but the servers and any workstations.  Some years ago, someone stole a server from one of my clients.  The person thought he had defeated the tracking, but obviously not.  The tracker put us within 3 feet of the server.

Suppose I implemented such a tracking system on my Fiero.  This is reversible, but difficult.  If I later sold that Fiero, I would not be inclined to go through the trouble of removing the tracking.  In theory, I could track that Fiero, until it was melted down.  Hence the ethics issue.

General Discussion / Obscure marketing?
« on: March 05, 2021, 03:29:18 pm »
While driving down the highway, today, I saw a silver SUV with the following text on the rear window:
Stop me and ask for a FREE brochure

Well, anythjng in the interests of helping to stop the economic slump of 2021.

A woman was driving (only occupant).  I tried to stop her.  I really did.  I rolled down my window, yelled and pointed at her rear window.  I did not try to force her to stop.  Anyway, the more I tried to follow her directions, the more insistent she was on not giving me a "FREE brochure".  Maybe I'm not her target market, whatever her market is.  There were no other signs on her vehicle to indicate a company or anything.  No phone number, either.

There is only one industry that is currently booming, so maybe she is part of that industry.

General Discussion / COVID logic?
« on: February 28, 2021, 01:32:26 pm »

Is this why EVERYONE IS CONFUSED?
~~~~~~~~~~
Me: AT RESTAURANT:
Hostess: OK, I can seat you at this table right here (4 feet away), but I will need you to wear a mask to the table.
Me: What happens when I get to the table?
Hostess: You can take off the mask.
Me: Then it is safe over there?
Hostess: Yes.
Me: Are those fans blowing above the table? Is that the air-conditioning I feel? Is the air circulating in here?
Hostess: No words. Confused look.
Me: AT GROCERY STORE: Why is there plastic on the payment keypad?
Cashier: To protect people from Covid.
Me: But isn’t everyone touching the plastic the same way they would the regular keypad?
Cashier: No words. Confused look.
Me: Why don't you pack the grocery bags anymore?
Cashier: Because of covid-19 to reduce the spread of catching or spreading the virus.
Me: But a shelf packer took it out of a box and put it on the shelf, a few customers might have picked it up and put it back deciding they don't want it, I put it in my cart then on the conveyor belt, YOU pick it up to scan it... but putting it in a bag after you scan it is risky??
Cashier: No words, confused look.
Me: AT A DRIVE-THRU
Server: (holds a tray out the window with a bag of food for a logical friend to grab)
Me: Why is my bag of food on a tray?
Server: So I don’t touch your food because of Covid.
Me: Didn’t the cook touch my food? Didn’t the person wrapping my food touch it and then touch it again when placing it in my bag? Didn’t you touch the bag and put it on the tray? Didn’t you touch the tray?
Server: No words. Confused look.
And add the Costco people that can’t touch your Costco card but can scan all the food you put on the belt then take the money you hand them... hmmm
Me: In SOCIETY
SOCIETY: If you cough or sneeze do it in your elbow or sleeve,
Also society: Don't shake hands or hug anyone or you will spread the virus. To greet people, do an elbow tap instead.
Me: Elbow tap? Isn't that where you tell people to sneeze or cough? Into their elbow? Now you want people to tap each other with that elbow? Wouldn't it be safer to sneeze into the elbow and shake hands like we did before Covid?
SOCIETY: You are not allowed to stand and drink at the pub or bar, you have to sit down. But at the shopping center you are not allowed to sit down, all the chairs are roped off.
Life is hard for logical people right now.
Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Engine confusion continues
« on: February 27, 2021, 09:09:40 pm »
Somehow, the LA1 was confused with the L32.  There is no 1994 LA1.  I'm not sure how such a mistake was made, although they both have a 3.4L displacement.
General Discussion / Z-car
« on: February 27, 2021, 06:41:04 pm »
Saw this today:
I know what it is.  This one was immaculate.  Even in the '80's, most of these were non-running rust buckets, but this one was running over 100MPH.  I was running much more slowly, so this was the best pic I got.
After that, I thought I'd use a different topic.
Datsun changed its name to Nissan back in 1981.  As stated before, we called these the Z-car, back then.  Japanese cars always look about 20 years older than they are, but I ran across a Datsun on the way home from work, yesterday.
Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Turn signal not turning
« on: February 26, 2021, 05:49:02 pm »
My left turn signal does not want to engage.  I can move the blinker stalk up, and all is good.  I can cancel, and all is good.  When I want to move the blinker stalk down, the stalk does not want to go.
Any ideas?
