Club Events / Re: Some Possible 2024 Club Events
« on: February 10, 2024, 05:39:13 pm »
We have received an invitation to participate in the Dunwoody Pines Retirement Community
Father's Day Classic Car Show and Cookout, located in Dunwoody, GA. scheduled for Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 12 Noon to 2 pm.

Like ourselves, older people tend to appreciate good American automobiles when cars were cars.

Any interest in attending this one?

I have been in correspondence with the Life Enrichment Director and she says she has sent out invitations to other car clubs in the area.  They have room for 30-40 cars, so it might be good if we can commit a few cars early on.  If we don't want our cars touched, they can rope them off if we want.  The show is strictly for the residents of the independent living center.  She said she was talking with the residents about the show and one resident in particular just lit up talking about one of his classics that he had owned.

There will be a free cookout for the residents and participants after the show.

There was no mention of any entry fee, but maybe it's something the club can cover if everyone agrees.

Come on, folks.  Let's do this one!

We received a reply to my inquiry to Sandy Springs about their St. Patrick's Day Parade.  They will not be holding a parade this year, but will only be doing a festival.  Is anyone interested in the Dublin, Ga. parade?  Dublin is about 15 miles east of Macon, on the way to Savannah.

I also checked with Statham, Ga. and they will not be holding a parade this year.

Club News / Re: NEW 2024 MEETING PLACE COMING FOR MARCH
« on: February 09, 2024, 02:40:25 pm »
Sorry.  I had listed it elsewhere but forgot to put it here.

The current plan is for 11AM.  That is the time they open, so by the time some will get there, we should be fine.  They still haven't returned my multiple calls to arrange it, so we'll just show up.  If they turn us away, then too bad for them.  The facility is large enough to hold more than 100 people, so we shouldn't be a burden.

I'll have Admin put the time on the home page.

Club Events / Run For The Hills #29 Scouting Run
« on: February 06, 2024, 03:03:58 pm »
We will be doing a scouting run for this year's Run For The Hills on April 13 with a rain date of April 20.  The starting point will be Franklin, North Carolina at 9AM, but we can meet possibly in Gainesville and caravan up so we arrive together.

The run will include The Tail of The Dragon and other exciting roads and scenery.  This is a one day trip so we won't be staying overnight.

There are several events where the club can get some local public exposure.

Larry suggested the Easter Parade on Easter Day.  It's somewhere in the Clarkston, Scottdale, or Avondale Estates area as I recall.

I have found that Sandy Springs will be holding their 2nd Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday March 23, the week after the actual St. Patrick's Day.  Maybe to avoid conflict with the Atlanta parade.

Dublin, Georgia will have a parade on March 16.  We participated in this parade for several years before our application was not responded to.  If there's enough interest we can try again.

If you're interested in any of these, speak up quickly so we can make application deadlines.

The invitation is to the Georgia Fiero Club and its members and folk.  He does invite others from time to time.

I wouldn't want to go down at this time of the year and sleep in a tent.  Part of the reason I suggested June.

John is retired military and I'm sure he could find the schedule for them and maybe make that a weekend for us.  Probably could even get us into some things not commonly accessible to the general public.

He says Naval Museum, Special Operations Outdoor Museum, Room Armament, Beach time, McGuires Restaurant which I'm guessing is a Top Gun motif seafood restaurant.

He said people could get a hotel or camp at his house.

Club Events / Re: 2024 St. Patrick's Day Parade Anyone?
« on: January 26, 2024, 05:06:45 pm »
I don't know if Statham is having a second one this year, or not.  Last year the council was against it but the mayor held it anyway.  Now, they have a new mayor.

Winder had one last year and there was even newspaper coverage of it, but city hall says they didn't issue any permits and there was no parade last year.  ?????

Statham and Dublin might be our only options, but it has to be done quickly.  I don't know what their registration cutoff dates are.

We can certainly do Easter and St. Patrick's if enough people participate.

Club Events / 2024 St. Patrick's Day Parade Anyone?

Is anyone interested in participating in a St. Patrick's Day Parade this year? If enough will commit I will approach some cities for entry.  If you know of a parade other than Atlanta and Savannah, let me know.

John Harbor (jonnyrottin) has been after us to come down for a weekend in Pensacola.  He can put us up on his property if we bring a tent, or there's nearby motels.  He wll arrange some tours of military bases and other local sites, plus a big cookout.

We can discuss it in person when he comes to this year's Run For The Hills, or if enough are interested, we can set it up for sometime this year.  Maybe one of the months we don't hold a meeting.

We are short by one person in order to have our full compliment of five board of directors members.  The VP position is presently vacant.  Any nominations or volunteers?

I moved the thread to a section better suited for your purpose.

Contact SpadeCustoms on this forum.  He has one or two good 2.8's that he's pulled for engine upgrades.  Depending upon his workload, he may also be able to install it for you.

Club Events / RunFor The Hills # 29, September 27-29, 2024
« on: January 17, 2024, 08:27:25 pm »
Run For The Hills # 29 for 2024 is already in the planning stages.  This year by popular request, we will be including The Tail Of The Dragon and The Cherohala Skyway.  Plan your itinerary to include us on September 27-29, 2024.  For most up to date information, check this website.  It's easier to find here than on the social media platforms.

A trial/scouting run will be scheduled for a Saturday in April.  Just one day with no overnight stay.  Likely the 2nd or 3rd Saturday, depending upon the weather.  Stay tuned to our website.
BTW, you don't necessarily have to drive a Fiero.  If what you have can run with an LS or supercharged Fiero, bring it on. If not, we also have a tourist/sightseer's class.
