*&^^*%RR%^^R% car
« on: April 03, 2014, 07:22:34 am »
The adventure continues. Got in the car yesterday after work, spent a long time spinning the motor and it didn't start. Turned off the key, shut off the radio so I could listen for the fuel pump. Hit the key........ nothing. Instuments worked so I knew it was something in the starting circuit. After a few phone calls to very knowledgeable members I finally got it going with a BFH. Bad starter solenoid.

Needed a new starter so I got A mini starter for a 1998 camaro 3.8 v6. Installed with no shims and works great. Sounds different, but no other noises.

You have almost completed your *&^^*%RR%^^R% car! initiation process.

One can not know the highest level of pleasure of the Fiero without knowing first the highest level of frustration.

Soon you will be a Certified Fiero Aficionado.  Stay stong, grasshopper, stay strong!

Glad you got it figured out.

I agree FGTB. Young Grasshopper is very impressive.

A Fiero is like a cat, they do not have owners they have staff.

Here in Sydney ,if the fiero isn't working . Parts are not available except plugs and leads
Nothing else can be bought locally , like from the Auto parts stores.
parts need to be ordered from the US or pay alot from the fiero suppliers in other states in Australia and wait one to two weeks for them to get to my house

Ive got to thank Mr. Sewell for helping me with the AC the other day. We messed around and determined that the orifice tube was plugged up as there was no pressure on the high side.

Spent a whole $1.99 on a new orifice tube and changed it out yesterday. After pulling a vacuum and adding 2 cans of freon, I the same pressure on both sides. A couple of phone calls and everyone agrees that the compressor is shot. Mo money mo money mo money.

A new compressor, accumulator and orifice thingy are on the way.

ON THAT NOTE.....JUST THINK,.... How much good for the environment you'll be doing by extending the life of an existing vehicle and not creating demand for a (another) new, mostly plastic car that throws tons of pbc's into the air from it's new plastics and metal forging and shipping and such. You might even save a tree, man!
So, throw away that prius, put on those John Lennon sunglasses, dawn your j.c. water walkers and go out into this world, knowing that you've done your part!  8)
There's ALWAYS a bright side ;)

Y'all crack me up..........

On that note, does anyone know what o-rings I will need? Part numbers would be most awesome.

Thanks, Scott

You can pick up an O-ring conversion kit at Advance.  It contains everything you'll need plus some.  Part Number 26735.  I think the whole kit was like 6 or 7 dollars.  Be sure you add 4 oz. oil to each compressor and receiver-dryer.  Don't take short cuts.  Disconnect the compressor to body lines where they connect to the body on the left side and replace the O-rings there, too.  Lube everything with the compressor oil.

PAG oil is the correct oil for complete flush and conversion to R134a, but if there is any residual of the old oils, Ester Oil is compatible and will absorb the old oils without damage to the system.
