Started digital cruise upgrade. any wiring advice?
« on: May 26, 2015, 06:13:45 am »
I've got the ar digital cruise installed and plumbed up. All I have left is wiring, but I'm running into different wiring instructions. My car is running with the 7730, so the 4000 vss from the ecm is correct for the cruise, so no buffer needed, but what about this relay vs non relay wiring method?  Anybody try this yet?

I figured out a way to adopt the cable, using hardware from my daughter's bike ;)

Cruise control?  With Atlanta traffic, we hardly ever get fast enough to use it.  Where do you turn it on?
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I've got the cruise wired up and test-lighted out good, but it doesn't work. I skipped a step with the pedal switches, cutting the wires there.  I thought it might work without it. Gonna go back in and complete the instructions fully this time.

The step i skipped was the key. Everything works....with the exception of it cancels every time I use my right blinkers!  I hooked up the brake sensor to the combo turn/brake light (it's a notchie......fast backs don't have that problem).  I just have to wire up a relay to go closed when the brake switch goes open. No worries.
The cruise is so smooth, I thought it wasn't working a couple times and kept canceling it and resuming. It holds speed dead on with smooth adjustments. Night and day difference from vacuum cruise!  Definitely worth while.

If you have a third brake light, i think you can steal a signal from that and skip the relay. I had to use the relay because mine's a notchie without the third brake light.

Instead of the relay,.you'd splice the third brake light signal wire and run it to terminal "G" on the digital cruise terminal. That should satisfy the normally open brake signal requirement.

Ive looked at both sets of instructions...... what is the deal with the speed o meter? does the vss output need to be change or not. Seems to be very confusing to me.

does anyone have a line on the wiring ends that go up into the speedometer connector. I have been looking for the part number t hat is called out in Olivers instructions and cant find them anywhere. If not, does anyone have an idea on how to get the speedometer signal down to where the cruise module is located? Im starting to think that wiring is like Jose Cuervo........ anit no friend of mine.
Thanks Scott
