Fire at Galaxy Diner
« on: January 22, 2017, 04:23:25 pm »
There was a fire last night at the Galaxy Diner, where we have our monthly club meetings. The extent of the damage is unknown at this time. Keep Maria (Galaxy owner) in your thoughts and prayers.

Oh, no!  Didn't she lose her husband recently, too?

It was her Father.  About 2 years ago.

Pat's stopping by tomorrow to get her evaluation of when they will reopen.  He and I just spoke about temporarily moving to a DQ Grill and Chill nearby on the same road if they can't make repaƬrs by the 11th of Feb.

Oops!  My bad.  Sorry for her loss.  I hope her insurance will cover the damage to the diner.

I've never been, and we don't have one here, but it must be a good diner.  I only found 3 or so online.

Wow! Quite unfortunate.
And yes. They're very good. It's one of those places where when someone asks, "What's good on the menu?" I can say "most everything".
And they are quite accommodating to us, and to car clubs and car-related activities, in general.
Good people.

I looked online for news of the fire.  The remotely relevant hits I got were for a robbery.   This am, there was mention of a Bombay diner fire in Chamblee.

How does the food compare to Stake'n'Shake?  Not a fan of greasy food.

They have a very wide variety of food.  Much more than Steak 'n Shake.  Large portions.  Low prices.  Burgers are huge.  Hot dogs aren't huge.  They're monstrous.  Italian, Greek, seafood, breakfast any time.  One of Melanie's favorites when she's able to go is the catfish filet.  Two slabs of catfish that cover the plate.  Comes with fries, slaw, hushpuppies, pickle.  Add a drink and you're still under $10.

Not into seafood.  Burgers are my thing.

Sorry to hear about the fire.  Enjoyed going there for the meetings, the hamburgers were great. Here's hoping they get to reopen soon.

Their burgers are quite good. Way better than "fast food".
Philly Cheese and Philly Chicken sandwiches.
Chicken Fried Steak.
Italian, as I seem to recall.
All sorts of breakfast foods. (Yes... you can have beer with your scrambled eggs. :D )

Scrambled eggs, all-day breakfast=my sort of place.

I like Italian supreme sandwiches.

Any word?  The fire happened in the morning when no one was there, right?

It looks like we won't have to find a new place for our next meeting. The fire was a small kitchen file.

That's about the best news we could hope for.  Probably mostly red tape.

GrannyLinda's son is or was with the DeKalb County Fire Department.  He said it happened sometime around 10PM, so they were closed, or about to close.  Probably no customers and no one injured.  It was in the ductwork and grease trap, so it was just a kitchen fire.

Thank God for no one injured.

Usually you have to get your business permit signed off on again, the fire department has to inspect repairs, and you have to get the inspector sticker (usually after an inspection fee).  Then there's possible preventive measures.  Suddenly, they find codes you're in violation of, like 2-prong outlets, or grease removal policies, or inadequate degreaser, or raw grease.
