Is there a ground strap to the transmission on a Fiero?  Mine didn't have one.

Drivers side frame rail below the vapor canister or air filter is a heavy stranded and coated wire on manual cars.  Probably the same for an automatic.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Any issues if it doesn't have that strap?

I don't know.  It was put there for a purpose, though.  My 86 cable is broken.  I don't know if it causes any issues, but then the 86 IS an issue of itself.  Ground straps never hurt unless hooked to a positive power source.

And then only for a few very intense minutes. Maybe.

I myself use a ridicules number of Ground Straps on My Builds, light's to body, body to frame engine to frame ignition ground  to frame, If It can Transfer static or electricty it ends at the frame with a ground.this stems from old english cars with Positive Earth systems.

I installed my battery in the front compartment, since it really crowded the 4.9.
The positive cable (about the size of my finger) goes straight from the battery to the starter. A smaller positive cable goes from there to the C500 block, up on the shock tower.
The ground cable from the battery is a normal size cable. It connects to the stud where the brake booster is fastened.
I have two grounds of the same size on the engine. One goes from the trans housing (clutch housing) to the left side hinge box. The other goes from the rear (trunk side) head to the bracket that normally would support the dog bone.

My 2009 Challenger had the battery mounted in the trunk, and it was not grounded nearly as well.
I have never had a problem. I do use a gear reduction starter, however, so it doesn't draw as much current as the regular starter did. Not that I think that would make or break this setup.

My transmission has to come out, so we'll revisit.
