Anyone done this?  How much disassembly was required?

I removed mine, to swap to a manual. (Cooler lines get replaced with the clutch hydraulic line. Follow pretty much the same route.)
They are not too difficult, as I remember. They are held in by clamps that are screwed into the bottom of the car. The only difficult part is where they go over the front crossmember/cradle.
You're probably going to get trans fluid everywhere.

Yes, fluid everywhere, and lots of disassembly in the front.

There aren't a lot of places for the tubes to go.

I removed my spare tire tub, but I had to get the clutch line into the compartment, anyway.

It would seem that a manual transmission Fiero would weigh considerably less than an auto.
