Re: Auburn's July 4 Car Show

Ray, Peter, and I will be there.  I spoke with Don, yesterday, and he said he would be there.

After Robbie and Raydar fired off letters to Mayor Linda Blechinger, FIEROS have been readmitted to the Auburn 4th of July Car Show.  Mayor Linda Blechinger spoke with Parks and Leisure Director Charlotte Ewing, and the decision was made that we will be allowed to show our cars.  I doubt that we will ever be elliminated, again.

For those of you who have ever attended an Auburn celebration, you know that it's a really enjoyable event.  When it comes to fireworks, we really do it up good.  If you plan to go to any fireworks display on July 4th, make it the one in Auburn.  This year, we have increased spending on the fireworks alone, by 50 %.  July 4th festivities usually begin around 2PM, but this year, the party starts at 10, so this is a good indication that there's much more to do and see.

As a participant of the car show, you will reap a couple of benefits.  You will have a front seat to the fireworks show, and you won't have to fight for a parking space, or walk any distances.  What better way to get reacquainted with your fellow Fiero enthusiasts?

In past years, we've had as few as 3 cars on display, and as many as 15.  It would be super if, after their attempt to restrict us, we came back with a couple of dozen cars.  So take the car down to the car wash, get it shined up, and go to  http://www.cityofauburn-ga.org/special_events_page.html and submit your application.

    SEE YOU THERE.

Re: Auburn's July 4 Car Show

I thought all this hoopla was about Auburnfest, not the 4th of July. I don't know if I can make a 4th of July show, since I have a grandson who's birthday is on the 4th.

The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.

Re: Auburn's July 4 Car Show

My original email was about us being eliminated from the 4th of July Car Show, and I referred to how we had helped with advise, and had always been the only club to display until last year's AuburnFest.  Robbie picked up on the AuburnFest, and that was the direction the thread went.  However, I'm certain had not Robbie and Raydar sent the emails, we would have been eliminated from this year's AuburnFest, also.

Auburn regularly holds a cruise-in car show right in front of city hall and the BBQ restaurant, but we've never received an invitation, while at the same time, I know they have courted other car clubs.

Re: Auburn's July 4 Car Show

Charlie, might need some help driving them.  I have to work on the 4th, but that would be cool to get them there.  Porsche might be finished, 10 k later!!!!  Glad it's not my money, which I don't have!
Think I'll name my new car "Flame" or "Rotor" or "Caliper" or "Rob" or "Dew Flame."  Hey, that might work.  What do you think, Rob?  He would probably name it "nightmare" or Pita - for Pain In The A--.  It's a beautiful car, kind of like a blind date.  "Hey Rob, what's she look like?"  Rob - "Well, she has a great personality, kinda like my dog Willie, ya know, nice and sweet and pretty!" "Conrad, she is so hot, that I had to throw my Mountain Dew on her to put out the flames, and you owe me a Mountain Dew!!!"

Ah yes, that's what friends are for.

"Dew", that's a good name Rob.

If we could get them up here on Wednesday or Thursday would be good.  I have a meeting Thursday night.

Re: Auburn's July 4 Car Show

Ok.  Let me see how I can work this out in the schedule with the railroad.  They have me every day until the 7th at 12 hours a day minimum.  We'll get you some cars to show.  If the Porsche is done by then, you can drive it!  If not, then I will go get the Indy, and you can drive it.  Pretty soon, Rob and I will have almost matching cars.  This should be pretty cool.  We feel that since we are both in the senior citizen category, that we should drive current antique cars.  I know that is hard for someone of your age to understand, but when you get older Charlie, you will!  I need to find that dang pink fiero with the teddy bear wheels and buy it.  That way, I can give Herbie a run for his money!

Before I foget about it, I would like to thank Mike Benson for a beautiful car.  I promise to take car of it.  This whole thing is kind of like a blind date:  I have not seen the car, just the pictures.  Rob calls me and tells me "well, she's running good, I drove her.  Didn't have any brakes, but she moved."  Lol!!!
I know the car will be right when I get it.  I believe we are going to have matching exhaust systems.  We want them as quiet and calm as possible, right Rob!?

Charlie, I do have access to a car hauler for local use, if you prefer.  It's just a pain getting them on and off the thing, plus gas on a 250 diesel!  Probably better to drive.

    Later,

    C

Re: Auburn's July 4 Car Show

Now you all know they weren't allowing us to join in on their car show and that we cause such an uproar that they changed to year limit from 85 to 88. So we need to really pack the place with as many Fiero's as we can get there. I've been at an Auburn Fest that there were limited spaces and they were full up with Fiero's. I know this is not the Auburn Fest, it's actually bigger than that, it's our Independence Day, this year more than others. So get off your butts and show your support. I'll be there after driving 150 plus miles one way. And just to brag, my car gets 31 mpg without A/C, and 28 mpg with A/C, and it's a 2.8 4 speed. And I'm going to try and post it on my car somewhere, to let the public know that these sports cars are economical to drive.

And Conrad, I've got my buddy at the muffler shop working on an exhaust system for the 2.5 that will blow your mind.

There's a plus to this show, you get to park in the best place to see the fireworks show. And it's going to be bigger this year.

    Charlie,

I have taken the day off, so Johnnie and I will be there.  I have not registered yet, but just want to make sure we can be in line with you guys.  I'll try to call Charlotte.  What time do you want to meet and where?  We are only bringing our new yellow car, but will be there!

Re: Auburn's July 4 Car Show

I spoke with Charlotte about the show.  She hasn't decided where she's gonna put the cars, yet.  They have over 95 vendors displaying, and if they take up the whole front street, then we're going to be located in the park, right behind City Hall.

All vendors must have their vehicles off the main street by 11AM, and at that time the show cars will be brought in.  We must enter from the end of the street near the fire station, on County Line Road.  May I suggest that we meet at the new Ingles, on Hwy 8, just 3/4 miles west of downtown.  If we're all there by 10:30, we can all drive into the festival, together.  Entry will be $20, if you haven't already paid.
