    Re: "Crank Sensor"

Did you receive the email I sent with some phone numbers?  Crankshaft or camshaft sensor picks up a signal from a point on either and sends a signal to the ECM.  This controls the firing of the injectors, and spark.  It tells the ECM a lot about what the engine's doing, like speed, and mixes this info with other sensor info to determine spark advance, etc.  I've looked through the manual and the only reference I can find for crankshaft position sensing is in the Electronic Spark Timing section.  It says the ECM receives a reference pulse from the DISTRIBUTOR which indicates both engine rpm and crankshaft position.  Of course, the 88 4-cylinder didn't have a distributor.  I can't even find reference in the index.  I'll search further.

As a check to see if it has a crankshaft or camshaft sensor, call Main Auto Parts on West Pike Street in Lawrenceville.  Ask for Bill or Keith, and see if they have one listed.  If not, then it doesn't have one.

The crankshaft sensor part number on an 88 Fiero 2.5 is STD PC3 and it sales for $29.99 at Main Auto Parts in Athens, Tennnessee.

I recieved no email from you, fierofool. That picture is of the item that`s at the back of the ignition control module.  I took mine out and i saw the magnetic sensor.  That`s the crank sensor?

The picture is of the crank sensor. The magnet is part of it.

The info I have for you must be incorrect.  Email me at cmmsewell at gmail dot com and I'll give you some numbers.

Charlie, it is in the middle of the engine block behind the coil packs. You have to remove the coil packs, then you can see the sensor.  Scott

    Re: "Crank Sensor"

I've looked all through the Haynes manual and I can find no reference to the cam sensor, crankshaft sensor, or even the module.  Not referenced in the index, emissions, engine electrics, or rebuild.  Nowhere.  Glad someone could help him.
