    Re: Axle seal

Save yourself a big headache, take it to you mechanic. I say this because you'll need tools you probably don't have. Jack up the rear of the car and place it on jackstands. Remove both rear wheels. Use a big socket and ratchet or brakerbar and remove the axle nuts. Then unbolt the the tops of the rear struts. Then unbolt the lower balljoints. This will allow you to remove the rear struts without messing up you alinement settings. Then go in by where the axles are leaking and using a prybar, just pop them out of the transmission. Next, pry the old seal(s) out of the transaxle and carefully install the new one(s) in their place. Carefully, I say, because they are easy to damage if you don't use a seal installer. Then just reverse the previous steps to reasemble. Make sure you torque the axle nuts to recommented settings. If you have an impact wrench, this job is much easier. Good luck and let us know the outcome, Mike B.....

    Re: Axle seal

Thanks Mike.  Guess I will do that.  The Pep Boys mechanic, Melvin, said he could do it in about 30 minutes.  Sounds good to me.  He also said the clutch was very easy to change on the Fiero.  I like that kind of talk.  No problem on the engine strut bolt.  Got that one fixed.  I had the car in gear when I put it in, duh............, that is why I had trouble getting the engine back.  Much easier with the car in neutral.  My wife said, "here, let me show you how much easier it is like this."  Then she took her left hand, easily pulled the motor back and put the bolt in (grade 8) with her right! ................................

Just kidding, but you get the picture.

    Thanks again,

If your having one replaced, do yourself a favor and have them both changed. If one went bad, the other's not far behind. Mike B.

    Re: Axle seal

The Pep Boys is in Snellville (that statement sounds funny!) on hwy 78 by Advance and another auto parts place.  There is also Long Pro Automotive, where Jeff, the owner, was in on the Atlanta Fiero Project in the 80's and 90's, for all of the recalls.  He is very familiar with the car and is going to do my seals and brakes and ac.  Long Pro is on 78 almost to Loganville on the right just past "Ocean Breeze" and the other eating establishments like "Tomatoes" and the Mexican restaraunt.
