    Auburn Fest

The Auburn Fest has changed this year and no longer accepts cars that are newer than 1985. So I won't be attending the show this year. The Georgia Fiero Club are the one's that initiated the car show addition to the Auburn Fest, and now they are eliminated from competition because their cars aren't old enough with the exception of the 84's.

This is a copy of the email I sent to them...

You know I've been attending the Auburn Fest for years and now I find out that I'm no longer allowed to show my cars. Most places limit it to cars 20 years and older. At 20 years old a car is considered a classic. When they reach 25 years then they're considered an antique. I have an 84, 85, and 86 Fiero but my 86 is my show car. In the Fiero's the first year for the fastback Fiero is 86, they only built the cars from 84 to 88. Since the Fiero's are not old enough to show, the East Tennessee Fiero Club won't be attending this year. I've never seen a car show that didn't allow classic cars.

    Subject: Car show.

    Ms. Mayor,

Regarding the flyer for the upcoming Auburn car show.

The Georgia Fiero Club was instrumental in helping to get the car show
established. Why are the vast majority of Fieros (they were in production
from 84 to 88) effectively barred from your show?

It certainly seems like a rather ungrateful (dare I say "spiteful"?) move on
the part of the decision maker.

    Respectfully,

Steve Hamilton / Georgia Fiero Club

Okay. So maybe I wasn't that respectful.

This is the reply I received today...

    Dear Mr. Finley,

I am sorry but I don't handle the vendors or really any part of our festivals. Charlotte Ewing does, I will ask her tomorrow about it however my suspicion is the problem may be room.
I or Charlotte will get back to you.

    Sincerely, Linda Blechinger

    Re: Auburn Fest

How about that. I got a response, too.

    Mr. Hamilton,

First of all you give me way too much credit in knowing about cars for a car show or making decisions regarding what cars are in or out. As I have said to Mr. Finley I will see why this decision was made however I assure you NO ONE is being spiteful. Our P&L Coordinator is about the most accommodating person I know and works fiercely to bring the best festivals and shows to our city.
I have not seen the flyer nor do I know anything about the situation, again as I have already said to Mr. Finley I will speak to Charlotte tomorrow and see why this was the decision.

    Respectfully,
    Linda blechinger

    Re: Auburn Fest

Thanks for emailing her.  Everyone has referred to AuburnFest, but the flyer on the city website refers to the upcoming July 4th Car Show.

Peter's a little ticked about it, too.  He didn't have his car ready for Pontiacs at The Forge, and was looking forward to showing at the July 4th show.  He's also firing off a letter to Linda.

Charlotte didn't say who specifically made the decision, but she told me "we decided that we would limit it because we had complaints that the new cars were winning the trophies."  And I disagree with Linda's description of Charlotte, Director of P & L.

    Re: Auburn Fest

If their worried about all the newer cars winning all the trophies then maybe they need to work on making the older cars look better. Everywhere I've shown my car it was the older cars getting all the trophies.

And next time somebody complains to her about who gets and doesn't get trophy's, she needs to point out to them that it's the people that are voting not judges. People's Choice.

    Re: Auburn Fest

I think we should go anyway. Everybody take their Fiero's and enter them in the show. Then we'll find out what People's Choice says. If they say their to new, tell them you just want to show your car and not enter the contest.

    Today's Reply from Charlotte...

    Mayor and Rob:

I have spoken with Charlie Sewell on the subject and asked him to let the Fiero Club know to come no matter what year.   WE ALWAYS WELCOME the Fiero club and it’s members.

The reason for distinguishing the years is because we needed a cut-off at some point.  We were getting much newer cars than I anticipated when we did the car show in October such as the Corvette and others.

Again Rob, please consider attending the car show.  We would love to have you all.

    Re: Auburn Fest

Yes, she said to bring them anyway.  Looks like the letter writing had some effect.

Now, how many plan to attend?  If there's enough, I might even roll out my 87 for the day.  One thing's for sure, it will be a whopping big fireworks show at the end of the evening.  Since it will be held on Friday, everyone can stay late and see the fireworks show.

    Lol!!!

As long as there is icecream, a lady clown, Charlie, and Rob, I will be there.  Just have to figure out how to get my vehicles there.  Believe I have to work on the railraod in the morning, will check the schedule today.

Yes, I believe today should be Fiero Independence Day.  The show is back on and Johnnie is letting me get another car!  Rob, keep your mouth shut when you see Johnnie!!! Lol!
