    howdy

hey my name is andy. i will soon be the proud owner of a 86 fiero GT. should be meeting up with the guy in pigeon forge, tn some time this week. i was hoping to meet up with some follow fiero owners.

i am moving on from my "RICER" stage in which i currently still own my 96 cavalier Z24(untill i get the fiero, we are trading vehicles). I am burnt out on my cavi and feel i have matured in my taste for cars.

here is a link to the fiero i should be getting http://www.mautofied.com/listing-100106307.htm

    any who, HI!

    Re: howdy

    Welcome to our obsession!

    That's a nice looking GT.

Sounds like the seller has invested a bunch of coin to just turn around and sell it. Hope it all works out for you.

    Re: howdy

Looks like your starting out with a nice one. One in a bunch more in the future. Noone can own just one......you gotta have a parts car.....then you gotta have one to upgrade to a bigger engine....

    Re: howdy

lol thanks guys. fieros have been obsession for the past year or so. i've been doing alot of research. yes, my plans do include a 3.4 (or maybe a 3.8 s/c) in the future, but we will see.

    Re: howdy

Just be careful.  Take delivery of the car, right on the spot and don't let it be shipped to you.  There have been a couple of bogus Fiero sales in Tn. in the last year or so.  Robbie's Vice President, Gary Murray and I both encountered the same man who had a red 86 Gt for sale, but wouldn't take cash in hand.  They wanted money sent to them by Western Union, or MoneyGram and they'd ship the car.  Gary was standing in front of the man and car with hard cash, and they wouldn't close the deal.  In our case, the car, like the one you're looking at, was actually from out of state, and not from Tennessee, though the seller lived in Tennessee but didn't own the car.  Hope this is the real deal for you.

Edit:  Just FYI, the seller's name was Robert Treece or something like that.

    Re: howdy

thanks for the heads up. i'm will make sure to call and ask him if he has the title on him before i even crank my car up to head up there. i not gonna waste time and gas if he doesnt.

    Re: howdy

i called today around 7 or so , i had a couple more questions come up, and asked if he had the title and he said he did! i know, i only got his word. i talked to him for another 45mins( talked almost an our the first time). i learned that the a/c doesn't work. he said it has been converted, the compressor does work, but it leaked out over time. i'm not the concerned about a/c right now (i've gone w/o it before).

on another note, i got about $700 saved up to blow on this car. i cant decide on what to do with it. options:
    1) i'm not a big fan of red, so yeah...paint it
    2) i'm a big electronics guy so i was thinking stereo upgrade and security system
    3) suspension upgrade ( not sure on this car current suspension and fiero's handle-ablity)
    4) search for a 3.4 DOHC
    5) Wait untill i get the car. the handling be fine the way it is, red may grow on me, 2.8L is plenty for now, and.... well..... a stereo upgrade will happen eventually

    Re: howdy

If you're picking up the car in Pigeon Forge, you'll get a chance to test the handling while going up and over Newfound Gap.  Just remember that Fiero, brakes and curves don't mix, so brake before the curves, then punch it in the apex.  If you remember that, then it handles like a gokart.

A 3.4 pushrod is a pleasing upgrade.  About 20 extra horses.  Costs about the same as a 2.8 replacement, but $700 won't get you either.  It will go a long way on suspension upgrades, though.  Just replacing the original shocks and struts makes a great improvement.  Add a larger front sway bar and move the old front one to the rear, and then add a good set of rubber.

The 3.4 DOHC is a lot of power, but working on it is darned near impossible while it's in the car.  Even changing plugs is a major task.

Even if you don't have the car, come on out to the club meeting this Saturday.  Info is on the home page.

    Re: howdy

thanks for the info. a coworker said i may be satisfied with suspension as is, he used to own a fiero GT (and may be getting another one soon). my dad has a 3.4 pushrod engine setting at our shop he pulled out of his blazer. i believe it needs to be reconditioned. we also have a 91 grand am with a 3.1 in it with a shot tranny. not sure how that would work out in a fiero though.

as far as the meet saturday, i'm going camping this weekend so i'll have to make another one.

    Re: howdy

Not sure if the Blazer engine is the same.  Everyone is using the 93-95 Camaro/Firebird 3.4's.  They're identical to the 2.8, except for bore.  Everything from the 2.8 bolts on.  3.1's are being put in, but I don't know what year.  Of course, you could bore the 2.8 and install the stroker kit and get a 3.1.

    Re: howdy

the 3.4 i'm refering to is not the original engine, it is out of a camaro.

it doesn't matter anymore i called the guy as soon as i got off work, got his voice mail(thought he was busy), and left him a messege saying was getting ready to head that way. i called a couple more times( about 30 minutes apart) and got no answer. the last time i called and told him that will 10 minutes and i'm heading home(drove to my inlaws). i have yet to get a call back. at this point i'm not gonna go through with it even if he calls back. so im dropping the price on my car a little more, sell it and then go from there.

    Re: howdy

ok, time for round 2! i found another owner of a fiero willing to trade. i sent him a offer to trade and forgot about it. couple hours later, he called my cell phone (which was not the case last time, i called the other guy). we talked for a good 30mins, asking questions about each other vehicles. he asked some real questions about my car, questions i thought that someone who was interested in my car should ask. he is in need of a car with more than 2 seats, and beleaves in driving something unique. anyway, if  i dont work on saturday, we are gonna meet in Birmingham (he lives in mississippi).

    Re: howdy

Good luck, man.  Just be sure all t's are crossed and i's dotted.  If you have a digital camera, also get a picture of the seller.  And ask if the car's ever been flooded.  Being that close to Katrina, you never know, and if you don't ask, he doesn't have to tell you.

    Re: howdy

welp, i'm back home...... in the cavalier. the guy was legit BUT the car was a piece of junk. dont get me wrong, the engine ran great, the body panels were all there, but i've seen better fiero's at pull a part LOL. it was not worthy of a straight trade for my car. and on top of that the guy did worned  the day before about the clutch was acting like it was going out, which is not a problem 'cause i have for repairs BUT the clutch went completely out by the time I was gonna test drive it. there was just too many problems with the car. he could get what wants for it IF he parted it out, but would never pay $3K for it. he called me about 20 minutes after i left and offered to get it fixed AND drive all the way to my house, but i still think that is worthy. maybe that and some cash.

maybe one of the guys interested in my car will pull through.

on a lighter note. on my way there, as i got on I-20 i got behind a dark green fiero notchback. i noticed a rear sway bar, a "fiero" 3rd brake cover, and a 3.1 EFI badge on the back! it was a older gentlemen driving it, douglas county tag. right before he got off 20 he goosed it and i did my best to keep up, but my car is governed at 100. anyone you guys know?
