I must admit that I was not looking for a Fiero when I purchase my Fiero. I was actually looking for a Trans Am. But I soon found out that I had a “Cadillac mind and a Volkswagen pocket”. When I went to the Pontiac dealer he had me test drive “my baby” over night. He said drive it home, keep it over night and I’ll have a good deal for you when you get back in the morning. It was the end of the 88’ model year and the last Fiero of the dealership. I drove it home and fell in love with the 5 speed transmission.

I really was amazed how good it felt rounding the curves near my home. I took “my baby” back the next day and told them not to put back onto to the show room floor. The rest is history. Since then I’ve put from 001 to over 200,000 miles “only” on “my baby”, a new paint job; an engine swap from a 4 to a 6 and driven it from San Diego to Dallas to Jacksonville to Louisville to New York and back to San Diego on one long trip. It was a 7500 mile trip and “my baby” did it in 5 weeks. However I learned a strong lesson on the trip. “Thou shall not cross Texas in July without air condition” I still don’t have air condition, but my “baby” just keeps on going and going. It also has a trailer attached in which I keep my lawn chairs, tools, tent and “beer chest” (for emergencies only). . .
