I just tried and it opened in pdf format for me, too.

Good.  I was worried that maybe something was off with the delivery of the story.  That type of writing was a first, for me.  I originally wrote it about 4am on a Saturday, then read it to my wife after she woke up.  She liked that version, but I felt that the ending was missing something, so the ending was re-written to clarify some things, and a few other edits were made.  I read that version to my whole family after supper that night, and my wife liked the original version better.  By that time, I either knew the subject matter for your article or had seen the preview.  Anyway, I thought it made a great lead-in to your article.  When I added the night drive article to the newsletter, it required some editing for space, so that was the third version.

I hope everyone was OK with an article like that, rather than something newsy or technical, since that was a departure from the usual articles.  The goal was to make this year's newsletters better than last year's.

For EV usage at college, the Volt may be the best option.  It will charge the battery while running on gas.  Of course, most trips are not far enough to charge the battery.

College sure has changed.  When I went, most students has a car that often did not run--if they had a car at all.  I walked almost everywhere, and could often get there faster on foot that anyone could by car.  Some years sgo, I took my kids to see the college.  It seemed that there were fewer students, but more cars.

There were a bunch of students protesting climate change.  Maybe if they walked, rather than drove their cars, they would have been more convincing.

Yeah, maybe a 2014 or so.  The 2012 had some issues, but most of those were worked out by 2014.  Also, miles on electtic cars are supposed to be less important.

True, miles seem to be less important.  However, we're still not so sure about lifespan.

There aren't enough old EVs around indicating how long their batteries will last.  The first Prii were only warranted 5 years.  But there have been reports of the battery packs lasting 10 yrs.  Don't know if that's normal or not.  Even the 1/2 million mile Teslas are only a few years old. 

Since it's my money, I'm sticking with technology that has been working pretty well the last 100 years as my main mode of transport.  At least for the next few years.

Peter Hoover has an old Honda Civic Hybrid.  It's probably around a 2005 or so.  He's had the batteries replaced a number of times since he bought it when new.  There was some kind of subsidy by the government, I believe, that paid or helped pay for the replacement batteries.  Because of the cost of the batteries, it was done to help encourage the purchase of hybrids.
