Two sunsets
« on: August 10, 2015, 06:18:01 pm »
The following two sunset pictures are both accurate for color, and are to the same scale.
The first is a familiar sunset on Earth...

Our thick atmosphere causes the orange colors, and causes the Sun to appear squashed a bit.

The next picture is a sunset on Mars...

Mars' thin CO2 atmosphere with iron oxide dust causes the cool blue color at sunset. The atmosphere is not thick enough to distort the Sun's shape, so it is perfectly round. It's apparent size (compared to the Earth picture) reflects the fact that Mars is farther away from the Sun.
The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.

I see what looks like a green and a purple halo to the right of the blue field, too.  Interesting pictures and comparison.  Thanks for sharing.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers
