I'm a country boy. Snow never stopped us. We cut holes in the ice every few hours for the livestock, put a heater in the pig house, and kept the cows moving. We used chains on the tires, and brought shovels and boards with us. It was about 30 miles to town.
I remember temps of -20 to -25 degrees F. When we milked the cow, the milk would freeze before we could get it to the house. We had a pond freeze solid, which was odd to see.
Perhaps the most beautiful thing is the trees after freezing rain, when the sun starts to come out, and there are several inches of fresh snow on the ground.
I never had a snow day, growing up. Even if we had to get up at 3am to take care of the livestock, then go to school.
I remember staying up all night to protect the livestock from wolves and such. I remember shooting wild boars, and they would almost instantly freeze.
