Replacing TCC Switch or Case Connector
« on: January 15, 2015, 12:58:38 pm »
The TCC Case Connector is a little plastic plug that the TCC harness plugs into on the outside of the transmission, and the TCC Switch plugs into the back side, inside the transmission.

This is the connector, showing the end that's inside the transmission.

I don't have a brand on it. The only markings on it are the same as the original. The letters P.E.D., but the invoice part number is 74444A with another number of 25A-103. It's called a Connector, Part Nr.700-R4 Case G. I bought it at Transtar Industries, Inc. on 5755 Goshen Springs Road in Norcross, Ga. Phone Number 770-491-6055.  The auto parts stores must order it but you can get it over the counter at TransStar.  They are a wholesaler to the chain stores and transmission shops.

It only cost $6.47. The Ebay price was $16.

An issue we had with the new connector was that every time we put it into reverse, it would blow the connector out of the transmission and spew fluid onto the exhaust. It didn't do it in forward gears, only in reverse. What I found was that you must push the connector into the transmission VERY HARD in order to get the latches to expand and grasp the inside walls of the transmission case. That solved the problem.

The long slotted piece at the top left of the connector is positioned at the top as a reference to inserting the connector. There is a little recess in the case where a flat tab (out of sight in the above view) indexes the connector. That little recess must be completely clean of any dirt buildup in order for the connector to latch into the case.

If you have ever had to unplug your TCC switch harness for any reason, there's a good possibility that you may have damaged the locking tangs on the old connector. I would suggest that any time you have need or occasion to remove the side cover to replace the TCC switch or have the transmission out of the vehicle, just go ahead and replace the connector at the same time. You can only access the TCC switch harness that plugs into the back of the connector by removing the side cover. Using your fingers or a pair of needle nose pliers, push the TCC Switch harness end out through the transmission case and plug it into the terminals in the picture. Lube the O-ring well and insert the connector into the case.

Here's a good How-To link for replacing the TCC switch, posted by Gall757 on the Pennocks Forum. I thought it well worth posting here.

The connector from Transtar does not come with the O-ring.  Of course, if you have the O-ring kits, this isn't a problem.

The two times we bought from them, they had the O-ring.  Did you finally manage to get one ordered from them?
