Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Tech Advice?? Hard start Vortec 350
« on: June 11, 2010, 11:25:08 am »
Although this is not fiero related I have a 96 K1500 Z71 I am trying to diagnose. So the story goes my friend uses this as a hunting truck. He got it stuck in the mud one day and then later pressure washed the engine off. Since then I have a hard starting situation only when the engine is cold. I have to turn the engine over and over to get it to finally start when cold. When it's hot it starts right up. When cold I can spray a little starting fluid in the intake and it fires right up. I have checked TPS voltage, fuel pressure, and have changed plugs, cap and rotor. All of those readings are normal. I have replaced the coolant temp sens and tried a known good MAP sensor. Still the same result. I have also replaced the oil pressure switch. No change. I'm down to concluding that maybe it's the vortec(spider) injector module as I know these things are problematic. Does anyone have any insight on this issue??? I am about damn near hands tied otherwise. the truck has about 250,000 miles and runs great otherwise. HELP!!!!

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Re: Fiero Store BumpSteer kit????

i believe it is at least the same diameter and has poly bushings as well it really helped a lot but as I said I had to make a quick maneuver on the interstate a time or two and it scared the hell out of me, I may need to check my alignment again. I know how critical it is on the rear especially

thanks for the tip! I actually bought a rear sway bar from the fiero store last year and that did help a lot, I've also just bought some new Falken directional tires, same size as stock. The one thing I haven't changed is my shocks and struts. I work at Auto Zone so I get a big discount on Gabriel shocks and struts but I want to put the best on the car for my money. Any recommendations??

i just wondered if there really is a point in doing this install. I know my fiero sometimes feels kinda squirrely when making a quick maneuver at high speed. Such as a last minute swerve to miss a piece of truck tire. is this due to bump steer or something else. I have good ball joints and bushings as well as good engine and trans mounts and the car drives nicely otherwise. Anyone else out there experience the same issue?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Fiero Store BumpSteer kit????
« on: March 11, 2010, 02:03:57 pm »
Just was looking thru the fiero store catalog and the bumpsteer eliminator kit for the rear seemed to catch my eye. A bit pricey I admit but has anyone out there installed one of these? Any thoughts one way or the other or possibly a cheaper alternative??? Just trying to figure oput if it is worth the money, also if I buy 1" lowering springs will I still me able to get my camber adjusted correctly on my 87 or will I have to go with an aftermarket upper ball joint???

Up to what year of radio can you use? Is there a special adapter harness to adapt to my fiero wiring?

i need to go check again, last time I went most of the fieros there were in rough shape. I know the one in louisville, KY usually had around 10 or so fieros. might be worth a parts gathering trip

The Market / Seat covers????

I've got an 87 GT with the silvery grey upholstery. I have a tear on the seat bottom portion of my passenger seat. The rest of my interior is immaculate! Does anyone out there possibly have a lower seat section or cover for my passenger side? I'd really hate to shell out over $400 that the fiero store wants for theirs when all I need is a lower cover on one side.

It was awesome but it still almost brings me to tears to watch two fieros get destroyed. Why couldn't they destroy something worthless like say a ford probe or a little ricer car?
