Run from Winter Cruise
« on: January 24, 2024, 01:51:48 pm »

OK Fierofolks, it's warmed up a bit -- into the high 50's -- but I think we need to consider a Run from Winter Cruise next January.

Where ya' want to run to?
It's not much nicer than this, even along the gulf coast, from what I've been reading. But I like the idea.

This, too, shall pass.
But I hope we've seen the last of the bitterly cold weather. Same thing happened a year ago.

John Harbor (jonnyrottin) has been after us to come down for a weekend in Pensacola.  He can put us up on his property if we bring a tent, or there's nearby motels.  He wll arrange some tours of military bases and other local sites, plus a big cookout.

We can discuss it in person when he comes to this year's Run For The Hills, or if enough are interested, we can set it up for sometime this year.  Maybe one of the months we don't hold a meeting.

I was thinking something like this https://www.hernandosun.com/events/weeki-car-show-2024-2/?fbclid=IwAR1jhEqkIK1u8f1Ihvrx33W4c1rbCM5UknsaURnCGPOThIdC067SAw95_E8 although I like Fiero Fool's idea of visiting Pensacola.

I know it’s selfish on my part but I would love to go to Pensacola. I have been at the Naval air base and museum and had a good time. Several times a year you can go on base and watch the Blue Angels practice and meet them after. Just have to check online for the dates they practice.

John is retired military and I'm sure he could find the schedule for them and maybe make that a weekend for us.  Probably could even get us into some things not commonly accessible to the general public.

He says Naval Museum, Special Operations Outdoor Museum, Room Armament, Beach time, McGuires Restaurant which I'm guessing is a Top Gun motif seafood restaurant.

He said people could get a hotel or camp at his house.

Cool.  How would he feel about having a bunch of Fiero-folk from a 500 mile radius of his place show up for dinner?

BTW, the Blue Angels practice schedule isn't out yet.  I know, cuz we're planning on heading down that way in a few days.

The invitation is to the Georgia Fiero Club and its members and folk.  He does invite others from time to time.

I wouldn't want to go down at this time of the year and sleep in a tent.  Part of the reason I suggested June.
